What does baby wear to sleep?

Wondering what the rest of you are doing.

We don't have any onesies with hand covers (dumb) so I put on scratch mittens, but this morning I woke up and saw one had fallen off near her head. UGH her hands are cold but I can't deal with that inordinate risk. She's been home for.....a day.

We have her in the rnp with a onesie, hat, and swaddle.

I slept maybe an hour due to stress over this topic.

  • Loading the player...
  • My LO sleeps in a baby tshirt with socks and mittens. We swaddle her in a light blanket.

  • We do a short sleeve onesie and a sleep sack swaddle
  • Sleep gowns or pjs and then a sleep sack that swaddles but we don't wrap up her arms because she fights to get them free. Most of her jammies don't have hand covers. I've looked into adding some to her things because she scratched her chin last night. I'm just going to keep an eye out for now on her.
  • Soft footie sleepers, scratch mittens and swaddled (usually hands out) in A&A swaddle blanket.

Night time we do a Short or long sleeve onesie, a cotton beanie, socks and swaddled hands in with a A + A blanket. Our house never gets below 72 at night. Daytime he's in a onesie and pant outfit with socks, and we lay a blanket of some sort over him.

  • A sleeper, mittens so he doesn't scratch his face up (he's not even 24 hours old yet) and a swaddle blanket. They recommend dressing baby in whatever you are comfortable in plus one layer (and no more since overheating is a SIDS risk).

I've heard this but it's confusing to me because what I'm comfortable in at night is a nightgown or whatever plus a huge down comforter. Given that LO won't have a blanket or quilt for safety reasons, shouldn't LO have the equivalent of my nightgown + down comforter + extra layer + equivalent heat that hubby being next to me provides?

  • We do a soft sleeper and a swaddle me or single-layer muslin blanket for swaddling at night. I do put the little mittens on too when I remember, because she clawed her face in the first 12 hours. It's just gotten cold here, so I will probably add a onesie under the sleeper soon.
  • He has been sleeping in a swaddle blanket, the kind with the velcro, which keeps his hands away from his face. We just have him in a t-shirt under that to make diaper changes easy.
  •  DD sleeps either in footed long-sleeve one piece sleepers, or a sleep sack blanket sleeper thingy. I'm new to those, it was in a bag from a friend and dd loves it, I think because she can move her legs around in it.

I don't do hand covers-all my kids hated them and dd likes to suck her fingers. She sleeps with me so gets some body heat too. My house is getting cold at night now.
  • @alysonmh‌ I love the velcro swaddlers! I just tried one for the first time today!

  • My twins like to have their arms up and hated the swaddling sleep sacks so they're in the "Love to Dream" sleep sacks -lightweight so they don't overheat and allows them to rub their faces to sooth. Since we got them they sleep better... Plus they look super cute :D
