Last night I was making chili and I was trying to open a can of kidney
beans. My can opener is a shitty, rusted piece of junk that I can barely
turn. My technique with it is to open at least half the can and then
bend the can lid open. Well, the kidney bean can was giving me a
particular hard time so like an idiot I got a fork for leverage and
ended up slicing really deeply, halfway around my finger.
DH was
at work, but luckily my ILs live close enough that my FIL watched DS
and my MIL drove me and DD to urgent care. DD was such a charmer at the
office, smiling and 'talking' to the doctor and nurses, but 6 stitches
later and waiting for my pain med prescription to be filled she had had
enough. She had been napping for an hour already when I got hurt and
then when my ILs arrived we just got her in her carseat and left.... I
couldn't even put on a bra, so she was hungry and in need of a change.
Huge meltdown!
I'm on
Norco for the pain, and boy is there pain. Everything hurts it, even
picking up DD. Last night she punched my finger while we were doing that
get-your-hands-out-of-your-mouth-so-I-can-feed-you dance. OUCH! And
giving DS a diaper change while he kicks..... F THAT!!!
Oh, and
did I mention my entire family has a cold? DS was up all night super
stuffed up and cranky as hell. DD has a nasty cough. DH feels like crap
but is still going to work (he works an overnight 12 tonight, FML). And
now that I'm on Norco I can't take DayQuil or NyQuil so I have to go out
and pick up some cold meds without acetaminophen. This mama REALLY
wants a glass (or two) of wine... wait, can't have that either right
now. Aaarrrrrrgh!!!
ETA: Thanks for reading. Here is a dancing puppy for your time.
@tromboner Sorry for the crap shoot beginning of a weekend. Yesterday I planned a surprise impromptu date night w/DH. I dropped LO off before DH got home & awaited him w/2 beers in hand. We got a little frisky, then went to Bonefish. It was fun. This all happened by 7 because I passed out on the couch by 7:30!
@tromboner OMG girl!! That's awful! I'm so sorry. I hope it starts feeling better soon.
I'm doing a whole lot of nothing. Our pipe burst, so we have to turn the water on fill up buckets and pots quick and then turn it off! Blah! Right now DD1 and I are outside, and I'm practicing not hovering over her. She's doing really good. She's tasted a couple leaves and practiced the steps. It's sweet to see her being independent (or think she is! I'm still very close at hand, like a creepy batman!)
@tromboner that stinks I hope things look better for you soon.
My mom is staying home this weekend, so no mommy for me today, but my Dad is FINALLY not sick so he is coming down Sunday, he hasn't seen DD since she was born and we were in the hospital. I feel awful because I'm getting sick and if I get worse I really don't want the visitors but I can't bring myself to turn him away at this point. This is is first biological granddaughter, I really want them to know each other.
I also had a great talk with my MIL about my supply problems and she has been calling to check in twice a day to make sure I have had time to eat meals and pump, and has even come over once just to take care of DD and pick up (if DD will let her) while I eat a real meal and get in a good pumping session. She also did an amazing thing and popped in on the day care I was looking at to randomly give me feed back. (I had asked her to stop and see what she thought she wasn't being a crazy there) She likes it, and thinks it will be a good match for our family so Monday DH is going to walk through and turn in our application. The think they'll have a spot for us by the time we need it too, which is wonderful. I also really like that they highly encourage BFing moms to come in on lunch breaks and BF and even will call you and let you know mid-morning when they are eating so a feeding can be coordinated a bit. I'm afraid we may be FF by then, but it's great to know that they ENCOURAGE that relationship and go out of their way to help it happen. It's also nice to know that our tuition covers formula they stock at this day-care, and it happens to be the formula we are transitioning into. That'll save us some money in the long run since we won't have to buy formula to send with her if we do end up FFing.
@lmk1566 Sounds like a wonderful evening. I haven't had a going out of the house date night since DD was born. The other day we stayed in had some shots and played Mario Kart though. That was fun.
@str13 Ah! I hope you get the pipes fixed soon! I love spending time with DS outdoors, they always want to eat the leaves. lol
@RedBaramid That daycare sounds amazing! I'm sorry you're getting sick. It's been going around with everyone I know. Boo.
@tromboner you deserve all the drinks, hugs, ice cream, whatever you need. I'm sorry you're dealing with all that shit and hopefully it gets better sooner rather than later
Another boring ass weekend here. At least Zombieland is on tv?? ah who am I kidding. I'm bored as shit, and hubby is leaving me for work today. Fingers crossed we don't have any more meltdowns from little miss grumpy pants.
eta- and I'd kill to get a stretch of sleep longer than 3 hours... I'm somehow functioning fairly normally, but I know deep down in side my body is begging me for some more sleep.
@RedBaramid I'm with @tromboner that daycare sounds awesome! What a cool way to work with BFing mommas! It's so nice to hear that people are willing to work with parents wishes!! I'm glad that its sounding like a good fit.
@tromboner DD1 climbed up the steps and knocked on the door and DH and opened it in his underwear because he thought that we'd locked ourselves outside!! Sooo worth it!
Pretty sure I've got food poisoning. Ask last night and all morning I've had to fight to not throw up on lo as I nurse. As for my toddler.. She's got free reign on the house because I feel too crappy to get off the couch..
We are having a fantastic weekend full of sleep fighting/binky spitting out meltdowns so far. DH is working all weekend and I just need a break. At least I have dinner in the crockpot. Hopefully this evening and tomorrow will be better.
@tromboner and @kateronium I hope you both feel better soon. @RedBaramid I would love a daycare like that. Mine will be an hour away from work though. Closer to my house so DH can pick her up since I work 10 hour days at a military hospital (with a 10 minute walk to and from my car in the garage - boo on that addition to my commute) so it would never work for me. I love that they encourage that though. Sounds like an awesome place
I plan on staying in my pjs all day and so will V. DH is going to see dumb and dumber two with a friend and his wife is my buddy and we are going to veg out around my house and do whatever the little tyrant wants us to do. Maybe I'll get a workout in somewhere this weekend too.
I'm going to attempt to take a christmasy picture of LO today to use for a Christmas card. I'm too cheap to hire a professional photographer. We went to Target yesterday to get some cute props. Wish me luck
My dad is coming into town on Monday. We are celebrating "thanksgiving" on Tuesday. So...tomorrow I need to go buy everything for that dinner. Then I would appreciate a quick prayer on Tuesday evening as I attempt to cook a thanksgiving dinner on my own with a needy newborn...why did I agree to this again?! Hopefully my dad will keep LO entertained.
Just going to do laundry and get ready for going back to work on Monday. Just house cleaning for me since its cold and wet here. My supply seems to be back up a bit since I've been making an effort to eat more and try to rest more. :-)
Also, just trying to deal with a cooped up child b/c of weather. This should be fun. (not!) He's already throwing the laundry around, and its only early Saturday afternoon. He knows I can't get off the couch when I'm nursing, so he's taking advantage. Just you wait, you little terd, until mama gets of the couch. Then you're butt is mine, and you are picking up the entire living room. He he he (evil laugh) lol
Relaxing with DH and LO. Been a great morning compared to the last few days of fussiness! Excited for next week though because I get a little more time with DH. He will go from getting home at 8pm to getting home around 5! Yay!
Sorry to all of you sick or injured. We're all sick here too so no plans other than to rest and watch movies and football. DS1 has that terrible croupy cough. Thankfully DS2 seems to have the mildest version of it but will only cosleep or sleep in swing. I hope that he goes back to crib when starts feeling better.
@withagrainofsalt you don't suck!! I know what you mean though!! Sometimes you just want to be home. way to go for getting to wear LO outside the house!!!
I'm feeling extra bitchy this weekend. DH is driving me nuts. LO interrupted some us time earlier today. I am hoping tonight goes better. DH got so crabby and was pouting because LO wanted some extra snuggles. Seriously?
We had my sis and dad over for our traditional birthday meal since my bday was yesterday. My dad is terrified of us taking DS out to restaraunts even though I've told him we've done it many times since he was born with no problems. We ordered take out from my favorite restaraunt.
We started playing card games and of course played some Cards Against Humanity and my sister was so loud she kept startling DS in the den sleeping in his swing. And was getting bitchy at me for telling her to be a little more quite while he was napping. Wanted to throat punch her by the end of the game. Then she wanted to wake DS up before they left. A huge hell no had her storming out ... My poor BIL.
But it was a fun time. I love my dad so much and don't see him as much as I want to. Now that we have DS our 45 mins from both sides of the family is really not as ideal as it has been in the past. So I'm kind of bummed about that.
Tomorrow is football Sunday! We had a lot of fun watching college football which we haven't done on forever. My dad is a huge Badgers fan so it was a great game to watch them stomp on Nebraska . Even had some fun smack talking my Nebraska friends.
@tromboner hope you have a better end to your weekend and that finger gets a little by tomorrow to enjoy the end of the weekend!
@kateronium hope you start feeling better too! That just sounds awful and hopefully more soup for you!
I'm feeling a little better but I honestly don't know if I'll be making it into work tomorrow... It was supposed to be my first day back my boss is gunna hate me..
@withagrainofsalt - now I want food court japanese!!! Still working on DS liking being worn. I've tried k'tan, ergo, and Bjorn and he doesn't last long in any of them.
We threw a dinner party last night and had a blast. DH did all the cooking and cleaning and I pumped extra so I could let loose a bit. Tired today but it was worth it! DS did pretty well during the party and went to sleep close to on time.
Today we're venturing to IKEA for some more shelves in the nursery. I want to get DS out of the condo and it's too cold outside for a walk. We'll see how many meltdowns he has!
Having a slowww day here, not much sleep , yesterday we took babies and ODD shopping at Target ( we always spend too much time there but gotta have my fix) & then finished up major grocery shopping at BJs wholesale just BF & I ( my ODD watched babies) then we finished the late night with dinner at IHOP & together time at home! Babies up a lot toward the AM ,but they are having a lot of daddy time so I can help my daughter put together her new room upstairs ( she moved out of old room so nursery can be downstairs with us ) so a lot of curtain hanging etc.. Although my BF has babies entertained I really wish he was fixing the broken light switches , finishing the flooring & painting the nursery but Can't have it all

I recently finished Gilmore Girls and am binging Desperate Housewives now.
