Our Current Condition...

Apparently that's what pregnancy is, a condition. And having such a "condition" constitutes being told I shouldn't be doing my grocery shopping. Oh. My. As if tackling our hell of a Walmart on a Saturday wasn't enough lol, I am standing in line with my cart full of groceries and this old lady asks "did you get all of this done alone?". "Of course I did", I say, to which she replied "oh honey, you shouldn't be doing that in your condition". WTF? I had no words, not one, I just looked away. And FYI, I'm not huge or anything haha, just a little bump! I got a kick out of it and thought maybe you ladies could use a good laugh! Happy Saturday all!

Btw, I've lurking for awhile (I know it says member since 2010 but I haven't been active until a few months ago) and I just want to say I enjoy this community!

My work is a bit of a boys club (I hang pretty well with the crowd though) but since I've announced my pregnancy they have all tried helping me move a chair or do stupid stuff that I can do just fine on my own. "Well you shouldn't be doing this NOW!" UGH- guys... Can't we all just go back a couple of weeks when we were making jokes about my tits? Lol!

I had a woman ask me at work if I would be able to emotionally handle a particular case in my "condition" without crying. I responded "yes Im emotionally stable, and only cry at ridiculous things, like Zillow commercials."

I stock and carry in fire wood daily. I carry around a 33 lb toddler all day. Please tell me how I shouldn't carry this grocery bag in.

Same here! Some people say he's too big to be carried but I do. While I realize there are plenty of women that fully take on the damsel in distress role while pregnant, I'm simply just not one of them! Too much shit to get done!

I've had a good laugh with several co-workers about how apparently having a child is considered a temporary disability, and we get to file disability claims when we have a child.....

Don't get me wrong, I think it's awesome we can claim that and get something for maternity leave, but to classify it as a disability is kind of ridiculous to me.

I hate when people treat others' pregnancies (or their own) as if it's a disability that prevents them from doing anything. All throughout my pregnancy with my son I received similar comments to what that woman said to you.

It's bad. I started the chiro this week. My SI joints are out of whack so I've been in pain for about a month. I try not to carry my daughter as much but I still need to carry in firewood. So ill live.

To save my back I'm trying to be good at work to not lift the larger size patient's legs or help transfer. But since I've gone public, my charge nurse has looked out for me and done those lifts. It's not overbearing, it's sorta sweet. He has a few kiddos of his own.

I haven't gotten the "condition" comment but with all the different people I see it's bound to happen, especially when I start to show more.

Some people just have to put in their two cents on what we should and should not be doing. Yesterday, I was told I was walking too fast for a pregnant lady and I needed to be taking it easy.

I'm just paranoid about hitting my belly with the boxes at work because I have rh negative blood , my work doesn't seen to concerned about the fact I work on a ladder all day , which I fell off at 8 weeks, and only my second in charge gives a damn when I say I won't lift heavy stuff from a height or attempt to get things a metre from above my head , light or heavy, because it's common bad health and safety whether I'm pregnant or not !! Damn retail, although I can see my belly is going to get in the way on the ladder at some point ... So apart from getting trauma to my belly I'm still
Lifting some things , although hubby tends to do most heavy lifting anyway. But when he's not here I just go for it.

Oh, also, just wait until you start getting all the questions and advice about how you're planning to raise your child. I work in a small specialty retail store and, during my first pregnancy, had multiple customers asking about if I was planning to breastfeed or not! One older man asked and then went on to tell me how it's best and yadda yadda yadda. His poor wife was mortified and apologized to me and told me he was asking because he was a doctor, not a creep! People have no filter when it comes to interacting with pregnant women...

Any woman who has been pregnant before should know you don't need to tell a pregnant lady to slow down, your body will force the issue if you are going too fast!

I'm starting to slow down already but I don't need anybody to tell me to, the stitch in my side accomplishes that just fine.

I'm sorry to hear about the stich in your side. I completely agree with you! I was annoyed when they said it (It was a couple that has two kids) and I told them that I will work out and walk fast as long as I am able. My lower back pain already slows me down some days.....

I still haven't told my work yet, but I swear it's like some people just know. I had two of the young guys in the kitchen tonight ask if I wanted them to carry some things for me down the stairs and all week my bar back is making sure I'm eating while at work. I think it's totally sweet (and awesome that teenagers are being so respectful) but I can't figure out why the heck they're doing it, it's not like I'm showing much or anything, especially in the uniform I have to wear.

I get this pretty frequently. I work in a warehouse and I do karate in the evenings. Usually when someone is trying to tell me what I can or can't do in my "condition" I only have on question for them.

I do my regular chores and activities but I am more selective at work. I won't move a particularly heavy patient or ambulate a patient my size or larger. If something goes wrong I'll be stuck like Chuck. I have to be able to work throughout most of my pregnancy and I won't do anything that could jeopardize that, especially since my bump keeps getting in the way of simple tasks.
