Re: Do you get to work late?

  • I am 2-3 minutes late 3 days a week. I can't help it that I can't drop off DS any earlier than 7. That's when daycare opens. The other 2 days a week I get to work 40 minutes early. I've never been late until I had O. It's still a foreign and shitty feeling.

  • We have flexible time. So I guess never. I just have to make sure I'm there at least 8 hrs and get my work done, even if it takes more than 8 hrs.

  • Before LO, I was ALWAYS early, but now I've been a couple minutes late a couple times. I hate being late.

  • Every day. I'm supposed to be there at 7 and I think the earliest I have ever arrived is 7:16

  • I used to be always significantly early.  Early in, early out.

Since LO, I've been late a couple times when traffic was especially terrible.

  • I've only been late to work once or twice since DD was born. I'm usually 20 minutes early.

  • I get really bad anxiety too if I'm running late. I can't be late or it ruins my entire day

  • I guess I am somewhere between late 3 times a year and late once a week - maybe just a few times a month?

But, we are a little flexible.  And I am the first one there in the office - I negotiated to work 7-3:30 instead of 8-4:30 that everyone else works.  So honestly- even if I was late every single day - no one would ever know.

  • We don't have a set time to come to work, you just work your hours and go (first) and I leave first.  So I usually work 7-4 when the hubby is in town.  I work 7:30-4:00 when he is out of town.

  • I was on an always late streak, but I've got it down to once or twice a week.  I have no desire to be on time most of the time since I'm a nanny and my loon ball boss will putz around for 30-60 minutes after she asks me to be there anyway.  I used to write down my start time when she left, but now I've been recording exactly when I get there hoping she will gtfo.  I'm late to most everything, but usually just a few minutes.

Reality of how long things take vs my perfect imagination of mornings often don't match.

This is pretty ridiculous. Does she pay you when she's putzing around? Then it is not your responsibility to decide whether it's necessary to be there on time or not.

I've had two nannies. Almost every time I'm still around after they arrive, getting things done/ready for 30ish min before heading to work. If she runs late, then my timing gets messed up. I specifically asked them to get there with plenty of time before I leave so I can get some things done. If I had a nanny consistently late even though I wasn't leaving as soon as she arrived, I'd be pissed. Luckily, I havent. I understand if it happens every now and then, but not every week.

  • So my new boss is calling people in this upcoming week to talk about arrival time.  I'm being called it.  My old principal (who is now an assistant superintendent) never had a problem with the 2-3 minutes because his motto was always family first.  It's not like I'm late because I'm sleeping in.  I wake up at 5am every day.  My lateness is based on child care alone.  We are scheduled to be at work at 7:40.  I'm always there on time, but by the time I sign in in the main office its 7:42ish.  This nitpicking is crazy but at the same time I see how I'm breaking my contract.    It's a shitty situation and I know I have nothing working in my favor about this.  Sucks.  I'm expecting them to put a letter in my file.

That's the issue.  We arrive at 7:40 to swipe in and we have meeting 3 times a week starting 7:45.  Kids don't start until 8:30 so I never missing contact time with students.

  • @phishgirl29‌ At my school we sign in each morning in the office. I know my principal gets upset if anyone is late for playground duty, which we each have once a week, and I'm sure if we're habitually late to get our students since he has to find coverage. I don't think he would have a problem with your situation at all. I have heard of principals in my district bringing in the sign in sheet into his/her office once it's past the time to be there, and makes anyone who is late sign in there, which I think is a shitty thing to do.
It sucks that your principal is being a jerk about one or two minutes. Can you attach a rebuttal letter to the letter, if you get one, explaining the situation? At least you know the assistant superintendent is on your side. Also, three meetings a week? That seems crazy!

It's a shitty situation with a lot of grey zone if you count past practice. I do plan on writing a rebuttal letter if he plans on putting a letter in my file. I'm a union rep and also plan on bringing in the head rep with me into the meeting. The funny part is that we have 2 swipers. One to enter the building and one in the main office. They only go by the one in the main office. Stupid really. What bothers me is that I would get to work at 7am everyday before kids. You're only as good as the last thing you do :(.
