Big babies .. Anyone else?

We went today for a fetal ECG and they did all the normal baby measurements as well. Anyways I now have to go to my maternal fetal medicine doctors once a month for growth scans and do the 3 hour glucose test after passing the 1 hour .. Baby girl will be 28 weeks on Sunday and she is measuring 3lbs! Anyone else in this same boat??

Re: Big babies .. Anyone else?

  • Same here. Went to the doctors today at 27 weeks 2 days and the baby is already 3 lbs 1 oz.

My last pregnancy they were saying my daughter was over 8 lbs at 37 weeks...she was born and was only 6 lbs. For what its worth, it tends to not be very accurate and I believe they say typically +/- 1 lb.

I agree. I was told my first son would be 8 pounds and he was 9 pounds 7 ounces. This one is measuring big too according to the ultrasound specialist. Only time will tell....

I agree. My last daughter they said would be over 9 lbs. she came out weighing almost 8. This one they are saying he's measuring a week ahead and already over 3 lbs. I don't believe the u/s is very accurate, it's just an estimate.
  • What PP said. The ultrasound weight estimates tend to be rather inaccurate. I wouldn't worry about it.
  • Mine isn't measuring big for weight, but is in the 110th percentile for height.  So now we get to have extra ultrasounds to make sure it doesn't round out too much.  H is 6'5", my whole side of the family are between 6' and 7' tall, and MIL is 6'3".  They've talked about possible induction for fear that baby will fill out quickly at the end.  I'm already telling them no, because all of our families are tall to begin with.

  • At my 26w growth scan she was measuring 2 weeks ahead and almost 3 pounds. I'm not too concerned as I know those measurements can be off. Her growth has been consistent so that is all that matters to me.
  • I had an u/s at 28+4 yesterday and she was 3.3lbs....so 96th percentile I think. Shes measuring roughly 1.5-2wks ahead. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit worried. But I guess we'll see what happens. i'm guessing she'll be a Jan baby like me.

@inkedmommyx4‌ interesting about the 3hr.... MFM was also concerned about possible GD at first. I had 4 phone calls about this alone today. The NP wanted me to do profiling and check my blood sugars 4 times a day for a few days but its very hard for me to accomplish with the type of work I do. I asked about doing the 3hr instead so she checked with the docs and the 2 of them said they don't recommend any follow up GD testing. I'm so confused!!!

  • My best friend was 38 weeks and they said he was no more then 7 pounds. He was born at 38+4 and weighed 10lb 14oz. So I don't trust the measurements all that much after seeing that!

  • The further along you are the less accurate it is, if can vary by two lbs.
