I think mine is a jumperoo for DS. We borrowed one for DD, but couldn't this time around. It's really helping me manage two kids since he can be there while I'm helping DD with lunch.
Cars Cars and more Cars... like this kid needs more toys ..and with Xmas coming up... oh dear. We just look like he caretakers in an apt full of toys lol
Not kid related but I bought a dress form (and photo backdrop) for my Etsy shop. Not a real necessity but I love how much nicer and more professional my items look now. It's been fun playing around with new pics. (old pic on the left, new on the right...just had to share because I'm that excited)
(Other than that, I haven't purchased any non-necessity things. We live on an extremely tight budget. Any extra is going to Christmas. )

countrygrl5533 Love the new displays, it definitely gives the product more Oomph !.. I don't know if you make head wear too, but if you do.. check out your local beauty supply store for polystyrene heads.. they are dirt cheap and you can paint them different colors if you want to
Bed sheets make great cheap photo backdrops too and in lots of colors. Just cut a hole in either end of the big seam and thread on a rod and use cup hooks.. voila interchangeable backgrounds done cheap and you can spray paint them if you want texture, then just pull the dummy forward to blur out the background more impact/effect
Not sure what kind of camera you use but if its a DSLR you can also use vaseline on your filters to create a soft focus around the edges without killing your lens.. If I recall you can also use hairspray .. just cover the center to give a focus'd area ...
@Wipz, I do make hats/headbands. I use DD for the model for the baby/child stuff and myself for the adult stuff. Just means I can't sell those items that were used for modeling. Which is okay as DD loves her headbands. And her football hat. Oh my goodness but does she love that hat. But I have a styrofoam head in my ebay wish list. I keep thinking about it. However, on Etsy, especially for baby stuff, live models sell the product better. (you can find a link to my shop if you follow the blog link in my siggy so you can see)
I actually used to use a sheet for my backdrop. On Etsy, it seems that white backgrounds or natural backgrounds (I shoot outside in the summer and the backdrop I have now it barn siding) sell the best. Dark or odd backgrounds seem to tank. My trouble with my backdrop right now is that is like a thin plastic tablecloth material so the wrinkles from being in the package show up. And it can reflect light funky. I now have it wrapped an old piece of paneling I found in the basement to help stretch the wrinkles out a bit. I've giving it a couple days to adjust before I take some more pics.
Oh how I would love a DSLR. (It's on my wishlist right after a Macbook) I have a very, very nice point and shoot that has a manual mode that I use but not the same. I sometimes do a soft focus with my editing software like this:

I confess knitting and Crochet.. not a strong point of mine LOL.. I wish I knew how or had the time to learn.. I knitted a couple of hats when he was born. just for photo props more than practicality.. one was a green pointy hat and the other was one of those ones with the fluffy tassels on each side... so piggin cute haha.
I saw this awesome dragon pattern that I am determined to learn one day... he loves Jane and the Dragon and it's such a good pattern.
I can't knit at all. Not even a little bit. I also can't do any fancy crocheting like filet crochet or doilies or things like that. I just have no interest in that. I have a short attention span. lol

@countrygrl5533 I love the new backdrop. Your products look great also! I wish I could say I have splurged lately but I haven't. With the holidays coming up, hospital bills, property taxes, and end of the year operating loan payments money is tight. The best thing I can think of is doughnuts. I went to a high end bakery and bought some doughnuts. We ate them and my gosh they were good. I even hid one extra for myself for my MOTN nursing session.
(I only was able to purchase the dress form and backdrop because I had a friend order a ton of Christmas gifts.)
Oh hey! I just thought of something. I used part of that order to upgrade my cell phone to an iPhone 5s (had been using a crappy old Samsung). My old phone worked but not well. So technically, it was a non-necessity...that I'm loving.

@countrygrl5533 has a smart phone? Never thought I'd see the day. That's awesome!
LOL I know, right? My old Samsung was an Android (and horrible and too small for memory). Upgraded to a smart phone the month DD turned 1 (and the kid took a pic and posted it to Instagram at 14m). I got it for business purposes originally and have come to love it as a tool. I'm a bit of an Instagram addict (@abigailsattic_loggerswife). However, I rarely check stuff when I'm in a group of people. So I've not become a "glued to their phone" person that I always despised pre-smart phone.
My DH on the other hand, won't get one. Hates them. But then constantly wants to use mine when we are out or tells me to "check that smart phone thing of yours." lol

It has been a rough year for us so I have not made many purchases at all (unless it's food).
I bought a hot chocolate the other day and hid in my car during my lunch break so I could enjoy it in peace.
Does that count?
That's what my life is 95% of the time. I understand. We no sooner have some money saved up and a car goes down or DH needs new work boots or something happens. Hot chocolate totally counts!

Ours is actually not an item - we're taking an overnight trip to the beach about an hour away tonight. An extra, but much-needed. DH has been working really long hours the past 6 weeks or so and finally returns to a normal schedule this week. But poor DS has been going crazy because he doesn't get why Daddy isn't home and so his behavior has been less than awesome, I'm exhausted from mostly flying solo in parenting plus being pregnant, etc. So we decided that a little family overnight trip was worth it for us to all recharge and spend some uninterrupted time together.
We go together like a wink and a smile. June 27, 2009
I bought DS an easel that was 40% off at Target a couple weeks ago. I'd been thinking of getting him one but I just ran in the store to grab diapers... Definitely my priciest "impulse buy" but I couldn't pass up that sale!
I discovered babywearing and bought a wrap. It has saved my sanity! L loves it and J gets more attention!
A back carry? You're amazing!
Ha! Thanks! That's been the one that's helped the most! Going to a festival? Back carry! Helping at a church dinner? Back carry! Putting on makeup in the morning? Back carry! Lucy loves to be wrapped and does not like to be out of sight of Mommy!

He's a one and done baby .. what can I say lol.
