So I've been thinking about becoming a real estate agent...but I have no idea what I would need to do that. I live in Oklahoma. Just curious if anyone knows what the steps are to become an agent?
I was a licensed agent. However, I worked for another agent and mostly did staging. I'm in Canada so I'm not much help. For me, I had to take my provinces real estate course. It was 5000 and that was about 10 years ago. Then you take an exam. Once you pass you join a brokerage. Where I live you pay monthly fees to belong to the brokerage, I was a Remax agent so fees were higher. I paid 500 a month but my partner paid more since he negotiated all deals. It can be really expensive to start, you need a solid client base and money to pay for advertising. I would estimate 20,000 to get started. I'm not trying to talk you out of it, it's a lucrative career for many. But remember clients don't care about your personal life. I got sick of calls at midnight, clients needing me to come right that minute. Evenings and weekends are the busiest time so take that into account. Good luck!
I really did enjoy it, but like I said I did mire the photos and home staging part. I got stressed when my partner was on holidays and had to do all the negotiating. But there is a thrill in that lol! I honestly recommend becoming an assistant first. You will get a salary, and a lot of realtors pay for their assistants to take the course. Get some experience and then go out on your own or partner up.
My mother is a real estate agent in pa and now an appraiser. It's very difficult working on a commission and sales can be up and down dramatically from month to month. I would go to a local agency and talk with them about it because they can better predict costs and commission based on hours worked/money invested in your area.
Good luck!
Eta: As far as liking it, there are many reasons people sell/buy houses. Some are joyous and others not so much. Also sellers are often impatient. Again, I would talk to agents in your area to find out what the market is like
