Let's talk rings

Hey ladies. I've noticed since becoming pregnant I can no longer wear cheap rings. My hands get extremely itchy and even a rash between my fingers. But now something funky is happening under my wedding ring! I noticed today that the skin under my ring is like chapping and flaking. And it's only happening underneath my ring. Of course this is not a cheap ring and is white gold. Could I be allergic to my wedding ring too? Anyone else?

  • I believe there was a similar post about this not to long ago. There would be some great info for you in that thread! My advise would be to take your rings off when you are washing so that moisture doesn't get trapped under your ring. Your finger may just be chapped.

  • It's ok it happens!
  • I'd also suggest getting your ring cleaned and replated.

  • My friend had this exact problem and she thought it was allergies while she wasn't pregnant. It turned out that her ring was slightly too small and causing the skin to react. After she got it resized, she did not have this problem anymore. This would make sense right now when you are pregnant because your fingers are swelling. Mine did the same in the beginning when I wore my band. Since I have taken it off and just wear my engagement, I don't have flaky skin anymore. Hope this helps!

  • Trapped water? Maybe take off your ring to wash your hands and let it air dry. Maybe skip your ring for a few days of lotion and healing and see if that helps. I had this happen last pregnancy n
  • Make sure if you are washing with soap you are rinsing good to make sure no residue is trapped under there. This happens to a gf of mine every year (she isn't pregnant) and seems to be when cold weather/flu season/heavy hand washing season starts. Hope it clears up!!

  • I find during pregnancy, I react to the alloys in the white gold. I can't wear my wedding rings anymore at all, and bought a band a size up, just to have something to wear.

Mine resolved after I had the baby.

  • Thanks everyone! I'll try leaving the ring off for a few days and then make sure my hands are dry after washing if I wear my ring. Glad it's not an allergy. :)

  • Also try to put some vaseline over the part where your ring sits when you're wearing it. That will help keep the area moisturized while it heals but still allow you to wear your ring.
