On the move

I thought I saw a post similar to this but can't find it. Sorry if this is a re-post.

Is anyone else's LO working on crawling? I thought we would have a little bit more time before this happened!

She's been getting really frustrated because she can only move backwards and away from the toys she wants - this usually turns into a "baby tantrum". I don't necessarily want to give her the toy every time (so she has something to work for). But I also don't want all her time on the floor to turn into crying and screaming fits. Any suggestions from moms out there that have been through this?

She's only happy on the ground working on her crawl/rolling for about 5 minutes. Then I'll put her in a sit and she's content for another 5 minutes. And then I walk her around and we start back on the floor again. Seems like she's just not content doing anything for very long!

Here's the visual.

Re: On the move

  • No advice here as AJ has yet to figure out to lift his chunky belly up.  Once he figures this out he's got all the other moves down pat!  He looks like he's swimming it's really cute especially with the grunting noises he makes.

  • No advice, but those pictures are really cute!

Stella has been trying to scoot on her belly while in the crib, but hasn't quite figured out that she has to move her arms and legs at the same time... so it usually just ends up with her butt in the air and her little legs kicking with her arms pinned down at her sides, lol! Pretty hilarious to watch, actually...

  • C was like that. Mastered the backwards scootch, then commando crawling, then actual crawling. When she was backwards crawling, I would just try to spread her toys out so some were behind her. She might not get exactly the one she wad trying for, but she'd get something.

  • Remington is not even rolling so you're ahead of us. :/

  • Really cute baby! She looks like she about to do a plank. :) Mine is moving herself in circles and getting really pissed off about it.
  • Once mine can figure out how to push all the way up on her arms, I think she'll be on the move in no time. She mostly just wiggles her way to wherever she wants to go.
  • Mine just rolled over for the first time yesterday (yay!) and now when he's on him tummy he get's all pissy bc most of his toys are hanging from play mats and he can't see them anymore.  Then he flips back over and alls good :)

  • DS is thisclose to crawling. He's been up on all fours for a couple weeks now. He eventually gets where he wants to go, but there's a lot of grunting in the middle. As soon as he figures out he can move his arms and legs at the same time, we're in trouble.

DS rarely rolls over. He can do it, but is so easy going he's totally content on his belly or his back, and doesn't seem to feel the need to roll. He loves his exersaucer more than anything, though. He can sit nearly unassisted, can stand with very very little help, but seems to have no interested in rolling/crawling. Anyone else in this boat?
  • @MarciP83‌ - LO was fascinated with rolling over once she knew how to do it. After a week the fascination wore off and now only wants to sit or stand. She can sit unassisted and can push up to stand with little assistance. I feel like a bad mommy because I stopped doing daily tummy time once she started to roll. She sleeps on her tummy and can push herself up on her arms. I figure she'll get to crawling soon enough... Not wanting to rush that! ;)

  • Luka has rolled belly to back a bunch of times but I wouldn't call it regular. No back to newly but we get pretty close. He's definitely motivated by toys or other things of interest, like mirrors.

For crawling, I think he's getting there. He "scootches" all over the place. A lot of bum in the air, doing the worm, rotating. It's pretty cute but I'm still trying to figure out when he stopped being a newborn.

  • Wow, my DS seems really behind all of yours. I mean, he does want to stand all the time and stands without assistance several times a day, but doesn't roll over more than once per week and usually only because he's mad. He does the swimming motion and scoots a short distance, but can't sit unsupported and doesn't seem too near crawling yet. :/ All in due time, I suppose.

  • C has figured out how to scoot. It makes me nervous. He's not sitting on his own. He'd rather be standing, supported, or scooting.

  • DD can roll from back to tummy like a pro (she thinks she is pretty cool when she does it to...huge smile) but has never even attempted to roll tummy to back. Just the other day she discovered the backwards scoot. She scooted all the way across the living room until she ran into the TV stand. LOL Most of the time she just scoots around in a cirlce. I am afraid crawling will happen by Christmas or at least very efficient scooting :) Time to start baby proofing!!!

  • H has rolled belly to back a bunch of times- he has little interest in it. Back to belly he is getting close- just has to figure out how to flip his hips over as he can do his chest. When on his belly he pushes up on his hands and gets his belly off of the ground. I think he may be one of those babies that skips the rolling thing and moves straight to crawling. He can sit unassisted for a few seconds before falling over, and loves to stand. He is an end of Juner.
