Losing weight!?

I'm 10 weeks today and have lost 9 pounds. Should I be worried? Haven't really had much morning sickness and my appetite is normal.

Re: Losing weight!?

  • I lost 12lbs in the first tri last time with no morning sickness or change in appetite... My MW said it's pretty common when your body/metabolism are adjusting to the demands of pregnancy. As long as you're getting nutritious meals in, you'll be fine! Your baby will get what it needs regardless. They just take :) Your appetite and weight gain will most likely increase in the second tri!

  • I've also lost about 10lbs, I was a bit worried because I didn't really have an extra 10 lbs to spare but my doctor said it was fine and I will make up for it during second trimester. I haven't been able to eat very much but I've been taking my prenatal vitamins. Hopefully it gets better for you!

I always thought this was the case too, but according to What to Expect, this is actually not true. You're baby doesn't take nutrients from you, and leave you low. It's your responsibility to get enough for you AND baby. Your baby actually goes without before you do.

    Just food for thought!

  • Baby will be just fine. It's just stealing it all from you mama!! I was so sick during my first pregnancy! I lost 35 lbs from puking multiple times a day! It was crazy! This time around I am losing visible amounts of weight but not puking, and not nearly the amount that I did with #1. Just hang in there...our bodies are trying to figure this craziness out!
  • Down 5 lbs as well at 9 weeks and I didn't have it to spare either. Doctor didn't even say anything about it. Just gonna work on upping my calories by adding in a few more healthy snacks.

  • I gained 2.5 pounds, and just weighed myself and lost 3. I am almost 10 weeks. I am glad that I haven't gained anything now, but I also glad I haven't lost a ton like most of you because I am already on the "too thin" side.

  • I've lost weight too. My OB said that as long as I'm able to eat a little and keep liquids down then it's fine.
  • Still down about 4lbs. I'm just making certain I take the full allotment of folic acid each day, and do my best otherwise.

In my pregnancy with DD, I was down about 9lbs by the end of the first trimester, but from then on, I gained appropriately for the remainder of the pregnancy.

  • With my first pregnancy I lost weight until I was 6 months pregnant. Dr said she wasn't concerned unless I kept losing weight after that (I promptly ended up gaining it all back and then some!)... this time I'm almost 9 weeks and have lost 4 lbs already.
No worries unless you're already very much under weight to begin with. Just eat healthy and exercise and you'll be fine no matter what your weight is!
  • I lose weight for the first 1/2 of the pregnancy every time.

  • Don't worry. I'm 10 w 4 days and lost 8 lb. I freaked out and told my mom (who had 4 of us) and she said it's find and that the baby is probably sapping all my calories.( I don't eat much because my job involves a lot of running around)
  • I gained 10 pounds and this last week I lost it. I'm glad not the only one losing weight. When I went to the dr they didn't seem to concerned.
