Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Blood work? How often after m/c?

I had blood work done at the hospital yesterday, when I found out that there was no baby. My OB called today and wants me to go get more blood work done tomorrow. I'm just wondering how long I will have to keep going back. Can anyone help explain this to me? I'm sure its to measure my levels, but just wondering how long until they drop?

Re: Blood work? How often after m/c?

  • I very sorry for your loss.  Hmmmm...are you having a natural m/c or d&c or meds?   Typically for natural m/c your OB will follow your betas to 0.  For d&c and meds it depends on the dr.  Sorry if I'm not much help.

Also, to get to 0 it really just depends on the individual and how high your #'s were to begin with.

  • It is different for every woman and every pregnancy and it depends on how far along you were.

Mine dropped quickly from 78 to 32 to less than 2 a week later.

I'm very sorry for your loss...

  • Everyones different. I had a mc last week and my levels went from the thousands to 200 in a couple of days. I went back today and they went from 200 last monday to 7.5 today. I also inquired about the same thing earlier and I got a response from a girl who miscarried a couple of weeks ago and hers was still 2 or 3,000 (don't remember for sure).

Mine is pretty closet o be done. Then I can't wait to ttc again. I'm hoping for a fall baby!

  • I'm sorry, I know this is frustrating. Like pp said, every person is different. It took me 4 weeks after my m/c for my levels to get close to 0.
  • I don't know yet... I went in today and they scheduled me for a follow up in one week.
  • Every body is different.  I naturally m/c on November 7 and I had some odd bleeding within the last week or so - my levels are still at 15 and it's been almost 2 months.  It's fustrating I know.  Hang in there.  ((HUGS))  Kel
  • So sorry for your loss.

Everyone drops at a different rate... At first I had my blood drawn every two weeks but I am a "slow" dropper and needed a second D/C so its been months (M/C 8/14, D/C 8/19, D/C 10/15)... I did start scheduling my draws three weeks apart becuase I was tired of going to the Dr all the time.  The Dr told me she is just looking for at least 15% every two weeks... and a continued drop.  The continued drop is important because of teh molar preg issue.

Best wishes and hang in there!
