Chapped lips?

Is there anything I can do for LO's chapped lips?  They look like they are cracking and I'm not sure what I can put on them.  I use Blistex in a little jar but I'm hesitant to use it on her.

I've googled it and some sites say vaseline is fine to use and others say it isn't, and the same for aquaphor.  I've also read lanolin can be used.  I still have some but it just seems so thick.

Any ideas?

Re: Chapped lips?

  • From what I have heard you can used breast milk if you are still doing that. Or I read olive oil could help. I also say lanolin and run the humidifier it helps put moisture back in their lips.

  • Ditto about the humidifier. How much water is she drinking during the day? I swear I read somewhere that, unless you are really outside in the cold multiple hours a day, chapped lips are primarily caused by dehydration.

  • She drinks a decent amount of water, but I will make sure she is getting enough.  I think part of the reason her lips have gotten so dry lately is that she sleeps with her mouth open because her nose is a little stuffy right now.  So her lips are very dry in the morning.  But I do need to get her humidifier back out.

  • I almost added earlier, the only time Cam's have gotten rough/chapped was when he was really stuffed up and breathing out of his mouth.
