Suddenly I've got a craving for sushi. I know some say cooked sushi is okay, but what do you think? And if you've recently had some, what did you order?
Agree with limiting high Mercury, but I've had raw sushi as well. You can always get the cooked roles if you're worried, California roll, whatever your heart fancies. As long as it's a reputable place you shouldn't be too worried. And I've had lunch meat!!!
i eat cooked sushi before my gd. but i rarely eat raw sushi while not pregnant.

The risk with raw sushi is getting a parasite, which would make you sick. And it's very unpleasant to be sick and pregnant. If a sushi place never got you sick before, you're at very low risk now.
And I don't look at the headings there so much as the recommendations on how much it's safe to eat in a period of time. If you're not eating a lot of seafood in general, I'd go to town because mercury accumulates, so if you have NONE in you to start with... fishie time!!

I do the raw stuff and the cooked stuff. The risk outcomes of eating raw especially from a reputable place are insanely low. The incidence rate that I was able to find was laughable, 1 in 1-2 million!!! Whereas the risk to eating chicken was 1 in 25,000 and no one is telling us not to eat chicken. Also apparently according to what I was able to find, a lot of the initial prejudice toward not eating sushi while pregnant is leftover bias from the 40's where Americans were apparently scared that Japanese food was going to be killing American babies. And no, I'm not kidding
I eat sushi once a month (ok, maybe less, but a few weeks?)....because baby wants fish sooooo bad. I do try and alternate the tuna and salmon, but yum!!!!
I eat both cooked and raw. Like other PPs, I avoid the higher mercury fish, but other than that, go to town! I've never had an issue with our local sushi place with anything smelling or tasting off, so I feel pretty safe eating there.
We go together like a wink and a smile. June 27, 2009
I eat fish 2-3 times a week since my husband salmon fishes every year avd we have tons of wild fresh fish. My doctor isn't concerned about mercury levels when I asked him.
UO I don't eat sushi because this pregnancy I've been having a ton of GI issues and can't risk food poisoning or cross contamination. Just not worth it to me. Also doesn't sound good this pregnancy.
I'm way into teriyaki chicken, potstickers and crab ran goons though this time

I've never been into sushi or seafood of any kind. Dh is crazy for it so I get teriyaki chicken, miso soup, gyoza, and edamame. So yummy!
Eat all the sushi. Except gas station or back alley sushi, never eat that.
Cries in corner
But i REALLY wanted that gas station sushi! Rotf lmao

I had dodgy petrol station end of day discount sushi before I realised I was PG...was terrified when I realised and doctor told me not to worry havnt craved any since!
I've eaten cooked fish sushi so far but I wouldn't turn away eating raw from an establishment I know practices excellent food safety. As a health inspector I've come across a couple restaurants not doing the right thing with sushi so be careful. A lot of health departments put their inspection reports online, so if you are curious, you can look it up or call your local HD.
Raw fish carries the potential of parasites. Fish has to be frozen at a certain temperature for a certain amount of time in order for the parasites to be killed. But this does not apply to many species of tuna, so keep that in mind when you are weary!
I've eaten sushi as well. My doc said that it was ok, provided I avoid large quantities of the mercury containing fish. Further, that I go to a place that I trust & have eaten at before. I'm pretty picky and only go to certain places anyway, so it's no biggie for me!

So jealous! Salmon is all I want to eat! I just don't know how to cook it well, and it's expensive here!
Re: Sushi
I had sushi cravings in my first tri and ate raw and cooked...no problems. I even had my OB tell me it was okay if it was from a reputable restaurant.
Follow your nose, if it smells off, avoid your whole plate.

Mercury is a separate issue though -- I usually use this as a guide: https://americanpregnancy.org/pregnancy-health/mercury-levels-in-fish/
