Anybody else stressing over naming your baby?

Re: Anybody else stressing over naming your baby?

  • We didn't stress about it, we had a few names we liked before we found out the sexes.. but nothing definitive besides a boy name. So of course we ended up with 2 girls. All we knew is that we wanted one to have my middle name/my Mom's maiden name (Lane) and the other to have DH's initials since the other would have a family name. DH actually named them both, while driving down the road one day maybe like a week after we found out what they were. They both just "clicked" as soon as he said them out loud, and that was it! Don't stress, you'll know when you come across the right name.

  • I'll start stressing if I found out at the ultrasound on Monday that we're having a 4th boy. We do not agree on ANY boy names, and it was hard enough with the first 3, so I hope it's a girl just for that reason! Already have that name picked out.

Yes! So stressing over it! We need to find a name that works in 2 languages, is not attached to anyone we already know, needs to have some sort of meaning and not give the kid impossible initials! Naming a child is a HUGE responsibility!
What two languages?  We have to do the same thing, Spanish and English.
  • Not stressed, yet!

  • We picked out our names like 2 weeks before we suspected I was pregnant... Her name is going to be Annabelle Grace... our boy name was Kevin Paul... it is a cursed family name every child that is supposed to get that name either comes out a girl or the parents decide to change it last minute.
  • This is my third too, and we already have names picked out for each (ok, I do and DH likes both of them).  Our girl name we've considered for each of my other two girls, but was talked out of it because of negative opinions.  I don't regret not using it before because their names fit them.  I feel like I might be disappointed if we don't get to use it this time, but then I think of our boy name and I love it so much too.
  • We managed to pick both a girls and boys name. Basically we both came up with lists and narrowed them down to names we both liked and picked from there. We had a bit of trouble as my parents have accents and have trouble pronouncing some English names. We wanted to make sure they'd be able to pronounce the name properly. We also incorporated a family name from my side into the middle name as the baby will have the father's last name.
  • Boys names are stressing me out mostly because my husband isn't helping by throwing crazy oddball names in ex) Optimus Prime. Think we've come up with one we can live with but I still want to look. For name stress alone I'm hoping for a girl. lol we've had those picked out for a really long time.

This is exactly like my DH. He picks the most ridiculous names and won't discuss any normal ones. I haven't even brought up names this time, but I haven't come up with any myself either. This is baby #3 and we're team green, so that makes it even harder!

I'm not stressed at all. Not long after we found out about this baby we discussed both boy and girl names. We'll discuss it again after we find out the sex. With DS we did the same thing, but we don't name the baby until we see it. Good thing because our DS would have been William instead of Alec and he isn't at all a William!
With our twins we were having a hard time coming up with a second boy name and at the 36 week 3D 4D ultrasound watching them the name Aiden clicked... and it fits our little boy perfectly... With Nathan though we were back and forth on names until he was born we went in to have him with like six possibilities... I like naming the child when I see them. Although this baby is already named and it isn't going to change... so go figure?

  • Not really stressed, more annoyed. Everyone keeps asking us what we are going to name the baby. We aren't finding out until Christmas, and we don't plan on having a set name until we meet the baby. We will have a few in mind that we like but that's about it.
  • I'm not sure if this will help but I emailed my MIL and my mother and asked for a list of family names because I knew that they had both done genealogy work. I found it helpful because I could see if any stuck in my mind and then it would be special because it was a family name. We named my daughter an old fashioned name I found in a genealogy book my grandmother had done and I thought it would be fun for this one as well! Now we just need to see if it's a boy or girl and pick one!
  • I'm not necessarily stressed per say because I am stressing over other things like baby gear instead, but I do think about the name situation almost daily. We had a girl name picked out that we had loved forever, but we are having a boy and I think boy names are seriously tough especially because we aren't very traditional, but also don't want something completely absurd. We do have a top contender so that has eased some of the worry, but we've got time so I figure by the time LO pops out (that's how it works right? They just pop out?) we will have a better grip on what to name him.
  • Babynamewizared.com is absolutely amazing and slightly addicting. You have to sign up I use it but its free. You can filter by popularity, ethnicity etc.. It will tell you the popularity of names through history and if you type in a name it recomends sibling names. I played on it daily until we decided on a name.
  • Not stressing but definitely on the hunt we are having another boy and I gotta say I feel boy names are much harder.. we actually didn't fully decide on our 1st son until after he was born (Julian) and now my DH says it's his turn to pick - I don't think so mister we both have to agree - he likes names like Alize (yea like the drink ..smh..) anyways good luck!

We have an almost 100% set name if it's a boy this time. Weird huh, how sometimes it just works? Now a girl on the other hand is pretty much up in the air!
  • We decided to use both of our deceased parents family names . My late mother in laws maiden name was Blakeman and my fathers family name was Elliott so we decided if we were having a boy Blake Elliott and for a girl Blake Ellie .. We found out last week we are having a girl :)
  • DH has started referring to him as Duke or Shep, so yes, I am beginning to feel stress on naming this boy. I think it is a ploy to wear me down and name him after one of his grandfathers, whose names I don't particularly care for.

@SunRae1‌ We're in South Africa and Afrikaans speaking (similar to Dutch) so baby's name will have to work in Afrikaans and English. A little tricky, since we pronounce many syllables completely differently to the English pronunciation.
  • @nincompoopery‌, We're also having to watch which characters we use. Some of them don't translate into English at all! So I feel your concern!

But we still have plenty of time, so I'm just trying not to worry too much.

Good luck to all the bi-linguals!

    Harrison is super cute!

It might just be the whole naming a third.. So hard! It's encouraging to hear though even if the baby's name isn't my favorite it'll grow on me.

I look at websites all the time. All of them. I'd prefer for the name not to be in the top 100 for social security. My first son's name has soared in popularity since he was born. It was 209 when I named him and now it's number 53. :/

Anyway. I guess I'll tell you both of the boys names O liver and E lliott. They both start with vowels, are three syllables and are very classic names. Alistair kinda fits with them but I'm not in love with Alistair. We've been calling the little one A nsel but I'm not sold on it. I'm basically at square one. Just nothing I love at all. Just hard when I've had the other 2 names picked out since Jr high.. And I'm old! Haha My Jr High self should have picked a 3rd name darn it!

I'm open to any suggestions! Thanks!

What about Alaric? It's an A name and 3 syllables :-)

So sweet! My oldest son's middle name is after my dad who passed away.

I've never heard that name. I'll have to kick it around! Thanks! :)

  • How about Everett?

Afrikaanas is hard I feel for you.
  • We have our name picked out, but we're stuck on a middle name. We've got some time, so we're not too stressed. I think it's actually kind of fun thinking about it and taking our time with it. It's gotta be just right.
  • My husband vetoes EVERY. SINGLE. NAME I suggest, but offers no suggestions of his own. It's infuriating.

  • Before I found out that I was having a girl I stressed about this same thing. The minute the tech told me she was a girl the perfect name popped in my head. I repeated it to my husband and he immediately agreed. I think sometimes the right name comes at the right time. Keep researching and hopefully the perfect one will find its way to you. Good luck!
  • @SunRae1 I'm in the same boat, English and Spanish and its hard. The Spanish speaking side is a bit more demanding though. My mom keeps calling to remind me of my great aunt so and so has to be able to pronounce my baby's name.

  • I can't say that I'm stressed anymore. We had our 1st ones name picked bot or girl as Ashlynn or Andre...it was a girl and so she is Ashlynn.

Then we had twins next so one twin was named Andre and we had a time and a half picking the 2nd name because we felt like he should have an "A" name like the other too and like @Renate85 and @NoraMia my faimly is HUGE and we didn't want a name that someone already had...fianlly we came up with Anthony.

Now with number 4 we have been trying for a while and so we had already picked boy and girl names...Adrine (boy) or Adryne (girl)

  • I like Atticus but everyone will think about To Kill a Mockingbird I think. Everett is cute but too close to Elliott. The older two boys names are super classic with a British vibe. Just hard to get that 3rd one to match. I might have to give up the vowel thing. We'll see.. Not like I have a non vowel name waiting in the sidelines.
  • It was much easier to name out dd. I'm not stressed but finding it very annoying this time. If we have a boy we have a name but the dr said its a girl. I didn't have my A/S yet so I'm waiting on the "official" call. My dr u/s machine isn't the best pic that's why I said "official" as long as the lo cooperates. It's not easy to find something we both love. There are a few names we like but idk if any of these are The right name. I probably won't stress until I'm like a week out but we will see

  • I was finding it a bit overwhelming... it felt like the list just kept changing or getting longer rather than getting shorter, so we agreed on a strategy to help us narrow it down.  The plan is to continue to add any names we like until the 20 week mark (next week!) and then only remove names until the baby arrives.  Of course we would make an exception if a great name came up later, but the idea is that the list continues to get shorter until baby arrives. The funny thing is that we are now pretty settled on two family names (team green) that have been in the running since before I got pregnant. I think we just needed to do a thorough search to realize that these names were the right ones all along.... Good luck!
  • We had a girl name picked out when my DS was being born. We kept that and have been racking our brains for that boy name now. We have one that I think will stick but DH continues to say to others that he wishes I would like a different name. Too bad for him, because I am the one birthing this child. I will get the last call for the name

Anderson was on my MN list and would sound good with your other boys' names. I also know a sweet french guy named Amaury and I've always loved the name.

  • This is my first baby, and my boyfriend and I are definitely stressing a little bit. He wanted the name Mia, and I don't like it. We came up with a compromise and picked the name Macy for a girl. We can't figure out or decide on any boy names though. We find out November 18th what we are having so we are trying not to stress too much about it until then. :>]
