Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

17 weeks (2nd trimester MC)

Here I am again, ladies. I suffered a loss at 13 weeks in March (baby was estimated 10 weeks) and went through the process naturally at home. It was a sad experience, but I really appreciated the dignity I was able maintain for both myself and my baby by passing her in my own comfortable surroundings, holding her, and burying her. I am trying to do this again at 17 weeks (baby was estimated 14 weeks), but my doctor has concerns with not passing the placenta completely and heavy bleeding. She is strongly suggesting a D&C, which is my exact opposite desire. Has anyone else safely experienced a second trimester natural miscarriage? I'm deeply sorry for each and every one of your losses. I hope we all can comfort each other and assist in coping with this unfortunate ordeal. T&P.

Re: 17 weeks (2nd trimester MC)

  • No experience but just wanted to say I'm so sorry for your losses. Hope you can do it naturally like you want. I just had my D&C today after waiting 5 weeks and no progress on miscarrying naturally like I wanted. Had a very good experience the level of care I received was amazing.

  • I am so very sorry. I have no advice but wanted to offer a hug.
I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.

  • I am so sorry for your loss. (Hugs) I have no advice as my losses were early pg. You should definitely heed your dr recommendations for the safety of your health.

  • I just had a 20 week loss and it sucked. I was sooooooooo happy to be in the hospital. It was super super traumatic. I had earlier losses but this was different. It sucked big time. Ugh! The blood was crazy and gushing everywhere. Then at night more gushing. I could barely walk or function. So my advice = hospital.

  • I am so sorry. I just miscarried at 14 weeks and too my doctors advice to do the D&C. My friend did do hers at home (15 wks I think?) and it became so frightening, she had to go to the emergency room in the middle of the night.

  • I am so sorry for your loss. It may not be exactly what you would prefer, but a D&C is not a horrible procedure. I think you should probably take your doctor's advice.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss, and I'm very sorry you find yourself having to make such a difficult choice.  But, like a lot of the other ladies said, there could really be a lot of blood loss and complications so I think I'd follow the Dr's recommendations on this one.

  • Thank you so much, ladies. I think I'm going to heed all of your advice after gathering up more research and info. I am pretty upset about not being able to keep my baby or the remains to bury. Trying to do what is best for my body and health.
  • I am so sorry for your loss.  My MC was also at 17 weeks.  I found out b/c I started having contractions and ended up delivering our son in the hospital (not sure how long he was gone).  Sending positive thoughts your way as you and your husband go through this.
