Re: N14 Twins Checkin (11/10)

  • @absolutelymaybe‌ Congrats again on meeting Willa & Ari! Thanks so much for keeping up w/ the check in so soon after giving birth :)

Hope everyone else is doing well & adjusting smoothly to life w/ outside babies!

AFM: I posted some of this in yesterday's randoms thread, but in all honesty, things have been rough since getting home from the hospital. My mom stopped over to babysit for a couple of hours today, which was much needed. I actually got to do my hair, put on real clothes (other than yoga pants), and DH & I snuck out for a lunch date. It's the little things!

I've been trying to get the girls on the same night feeding schedule, but it isn't happening yet. One of our girls, Brianna, (so far) eats/sleeps like a champ. Her sister, April, on the other hand... fights her feedings, is super gassy, and fusses ALL night. She had us up every hour last night. Thinking we may have to switch her formula? This has been leaving me w/ guilt about not attempting to breastfeed.

Thankfully my C-section recovery has been very smooth, which counts for something?

I also realized what a production it is to take them both out of the house! They had their first pedi appt last Friday - it was quite the adventure. I'm definitely nervous for those times DH will not be available to help.

Rough patches aside - I'm beyond thankful that they're finally here, and both healthy. I know that once we establish some sort of routine, it'll get easier. Here's to living minute by minute (props @absolutelymaybe‌) until then ;)

It's twin girls!! Born on 11-2-14!

  • Congratulations @absolutelymaybe‌ !!!!! Kudos to you for keeping up with check-ins!!!!

William and Averie are growing, they both have colds which is nerve wracking for me. I have never had any of my other kids sick this small. But my pedi thinks it will pass quickly. They eat every 3 hours, William is pokey and Averie gobbles her food down.

We close on our house in 4 days!!! I have been sleeping downstairs with the twins, while my FI sleeps up because the twins wake up Autumn. I can't wait to be in the same room again. I also think I am suffering from the baby blues, I love my kids and I am glad everyone is happy healthy for the most part. I just feel a little overwhelmed with the three kids and having the health problems. But I hope it gets better soon.
  • @absolutelymaybe‌ Thank you for putting together the check in so soon after Willa and Ari's arrival! They are soooo cute!!

@MrsC430‌ Glad your recovery is going well. Hang in there with the schedule. It does get better!

@Amandakea15‌ Yay for closing on your house! Boo for baby colds! I hope your LOs get better quickly.

I'm still baking -- and I really want a muffin out of all this (lol). I am so ready for Friday...physically (everything hurts). Mentally, I've started to freak out a little about having two newborns and a toddler. DH wants to keep his head in the sand until they're here and we know what's truly in front of us. Honestly, I wish I could do the same! But it's not been long enough past DS's infancy and, well, I remember! X_X

It's Saturday. Hmm. How did that happen? I swear I just posted this check in. The week has gone by in a blur of feeds and diaper changes...

@MrsC430 - I'm glad you and your DH got to have a little time to yourselves. I know how...consuming life with twins can become. I managed to get out of the house and go to the store on Wednesday (wearing pre-pregnancy clothes and heels! I swear it was just walmart but I felt like a freaking supermodel)

@Amandakea15 - Congrats on your house! So exciting! I'm so sorry to hear your little ones have colds! I hope your pedi is right and they get better soon. I can understand how you might be feeling overwhelmed with all of that going on.

@MrsMolly520 - I hope everything went smoothly for you. A preemptive congrats is in order!
@Morrkim - I'm sorry to hear your boys didn't past the CF test. I hope everything is OK with the sweat test.

@missvolvo - Yay! Congrats on John and George. I'm so sorry to hear John is having issues. I'm not familiar with cortisol deficiency, but I hope this is something that can be managed easily.

@tiersa_smith - Your babies are so adorable (as usual!) They are like little fashionistas. My Willa will have to take tips! And you look beautiful, too, of course!

@KimmieS1756 - I'm so glad everything is continued to go well for you and your boys! I've been watching their progress through your Facebook updates. They are so adorable!

    AFM...

    The Good
    • Despite having fluid in his lungs and Willa having issues with spitting up (I think they were just being extra cautious) and the babies spending two days in the NICU, we all got to go home on the third day.
    • I'm healing like a freaking super hero. Twenty-four hours after my CS I was up in my hospital room "straightening up" for visitors and the last dose I had of ibuprofen was the day I went home. Seriously. The nurse said I was recovering faster than most of the vaginal birth moms they have. So - go me!
    • Willa and Ari are awesome babies. Really, they are. Ari has started getting fussy after his 1-2 a.m. feeding and kept us up until 5 a.m. a couple nights, but I think we've got it figured out that he's still hungry and he did better last night.
    • Their one week check up with the pedi went well! Willa had gained an ounce. Ari had lost a little since his original birth weight, but Dr. wasn't concerned.
    The Bad
    • Willa's feet grew all funky because of how she was sitting on them on the inside. It's likely we will need foot casts to get everything straightened out, but the prognosis is good that they will be able to fix them. We are being referred to Shriner's Hospital about two hours away (ironically, in the same city we did our IVF around the same time last year!)
    • Breastfeeding and I just couldn't make things work. There were a lot of factors leading up to the decision to go with formula (my milk took forever to come in, my nipples suck and oh my god nipple shields are the devil, the hospital's lactation consultant didn't work weekends, babies spent time in the NICU, there are TWO of them...). Those aren't excuses, because I know a lot of moms have had worse issues and made it work, they're just reasons. In the end, I was just so frustrated and ended up giving up for my own sanity. Best. Decision. Ever. I have no guilt. My babies have received much better care from a mentally stable mother than they would've than from a frustrated, emotional, and tired mother.
    • I had a little breakdown on the first night home (almost entirely because of the breastfeeding issue -- milk still hadn't come in and it was going to take at least two hours to get through a feeding with attempt at BFing, formula feeding and then pumping). I was in tears and DH was honestly worried. He let me go lay down why he took care of getting them settled in. That's when I made the call to just do formula and everything was OK from that point on. I even got up for their first MOTN feeding and let DH sleep. Kind of scared him though when he caught me coming back to bed and I told him I "took care of the babies." Perhaps a poor choice of words after he witnessed my earlier breakdown?
    The Funny
    • After not changing a single diaper before these babies were born, I'm getting plenty of fun experiences. Oddly enough, it's the girl I'm having more issues with. Willa is a champion pooper and pee-er and often requires a couple diapers per change. Ari peed on my hand (NBD), but Willa projectile peed across our bed.
    • DH told me how to mix the formula (he was doing it first), but apparently I misheard him. Or I didn't listen (which is not unusual) and I probably should've read the can myself. I thought it was one scoop per one ounce, not two ounces. Thankfully he was doing most of the bottle duties, but our babies didn't poop for a day and were a little constipated and I blame my mix up. Worst. Mom. Ever.
    • Willa had a spit up explosion out of her nose right after I changed her diaper. I quickly reached for a spit up rag...or so I thought. It was her dirty diaper. THANKFULLY I realized the texture wasn't right before I wiped her face with it. Mom fail.

  • Question for the FF moms - which brand of formula are you using? Are both babies tolerating the same brand?

The hospital started our girls off on Enfamil. One of our girls is doing just fine with it, the other has been a challenge. Pedi recommended switching her to the gentleease Enfamil, which was also a fail. So now we're trying Soy based. Praying that's finally the answer - her poor belly has been through the ringer & I feel awful.

Just curious what is working for everyone else.

  • @MrsC430 - They started us on Similac in the hospital and I think both babies are tolerating it well. I'm not sure how to tell if they're not. I mean, Ari is spitting up a little (but I think this is because mom SUCKS at burping) and his bowel movements have been a little hard (but, once again, I think this might be because I screwed up mixing their formula for a couple days). Willa is doing okay, though.

I really hope they don't end up taking different formulas.

  • @absolutelymaybe‌ That's great that they're both doing well on Similac! One of our girls was having screaming fits after eating & tons of gas, so their pedi seems to think it's a formula issue. Trying to find the one that works for her sucks! I've seen Similac has a sensitive line, so if the soy based is another fail, maybe we'll try that. Thanks! :)

  • Our boys are here!! They were born at 38+1 weeks on November 14th (our scheduled RCS).

Austin James was born at 5:59am, weighing 7lbs.8oz., and 20" in height.

    image

Anthony Francis was born some seconds later, at 5:59am. He weighed 7lbs.13oz. and is also 20" in height.

I am sooo in love with these little guys. It's amazing because I thought for sure it would take a little time to get used to them, similar to my experience with DS. Hopefully we'll be discharged today and our little family will all be together again. :)

  • @MsMolly520‌ - sooo adorable! Congratulations!

Just wanted to let everyone know I'll be a day late on the check in for this week. Today was a rough day, DH went back to work part of the day and apparently ari decided he wanted to be momma's little rage monster during that time. So not only was i up all night handling the feedings solo, but all morning too. I finally was able to get a nap when DH came home this afternoon and have been in and out of when not feeding, burping, and changing.

    Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
