Cloth Diapering

I know he meant well but...

there's no real reason for this post...I'll just rewash them. Yesterday I put a load of diapers in the washer and started the rinse, then of course I forgot all about them b/c who has a brain these days (37w1d pregnant with 2 other kiddos). T was trying to help me out, so he washed them with a tide pod thingy. We have never bought these, I think he just wanted to try them and I told him I was diapers in Tide but didn't explain which version I use. Then of course when they were done he just tossed them in the dryer. Well, they smell FABULOUS, but I know they'll probably repel so I have to re-wash. When I told him thanks for trying but just leave the laundry up to me, he says "but they are clean and they smell great!" I just gave him a little pat on the back and said, "it's ok, thanks for trying to help."  :|

Re: I know he meant well but...

  • I wouldn't re-wash.  I highly doubt after one wash with a pod they would repel.  I wouldn't make it a habit... but once shouldn't cause issues.

  • Yup.  What she said.  They'll probably be fine if it was just one non-standard wash.

  • I wouldn't rewash either. At most another rinse.

I was thinking this too. He didn't do a second rinse b/c he didn't know to do that...I guess I should forgive him since he was only trying to help right? ;)

LLOL.  I gave him a verbal tutorial.   I have a feeling it went in one ear and out the other, though.  We have an old fashioned top loader now and he's not used to having a washing machine that's not intuitive.
  • I posted directions above the washer for this reason!

  • Honest question about Tide pods.......is it because of the liquid detergent inside and liquid detergent isn't recommended or is there some other reason why Tide pods are not good for cd?

  • this is why my husband is only allowed to do his laundry.  A freakin prototype engineer and he can't figure out which cycle, temp, water setting.....it blows my mind.

  • Also, you can't adjust the amount of detergent like you can if you just use the scoopable Tide.
  • on the directions it says to use one pod for a regular load of clothes and 2 pods for an XL load. That is too vague to me. We're going to use them on our clothes, but stick with the powder for diapers. the scent is amazing, but I'm used to my diapers not having a scent so it's a little unsettling. The kids are at their grandparents so H is in disposables today. I haven't been able to see if the pod had an effect on her diapers.
