Negotiating with car insurance company

As I mentioned in the SUV thread, DH was in an accident this morning. He is fine, but the car is most likely totaled.

The other insurance company has accepted liability for the accident. Any tips on how to negotiate with them regarding replacement value for the car?

We've never done this before and need to get as much for the car as possible. It was a 2002, but well maintained and we usually drive our cars until they won't run anymore. Having to buy a new one right now is unexpected and financially stressful.

    Make sure to include the cost of any car seats or seat bases if you need to replace them. And good luck! I got screwed by Michigan's stupid no-fault insurance after my accident.
