Winter coat vs snowsuit

I know their have been discussions on outerwear, but I'm mobile and couldn't find it. The babies are going to be transitioning from the carriers to a convertible car seat, and I'm not sure which would be better. I thought the winter coats, but DH is pushing for snowsuits. We are in illinois so we get pretty harsh weather.

Re: Winter coat vs snowsuit

  • My LO has both, but which one she wears will depend on what we are doing.  If we are just going to the store, or someplace that just requires house to car, car to building, she'll just wear her coat, mittens, and hat.  But if we're going somewhere that requires some outside time, like MHs 5K this weekend, or a walk, or an outside event, then she'll wear the snowsuit.

She won't keep a blanket on, she just kicks them off, so I wanted the extra warmth for when she'll be exposed to the cold and winter for longer periods of time.

  • ^^^ what she said. Just s thin hoodie in the carseat. Take a heavy jacket with you if you're going to be spending time outside.
  • You can also put their jacket on backwards once they are strapped in the car seat. https://youtu.be/QnBqWuhc6kE

  • Ditto on the whole puffy coats are bad in car seats thing. We just do a polar fleece and a blanket, add a hat and mittens if necessary. We live in WI, so experience sub zero temps, and this has been fine.

When we do spend time outside, we have a down puffer coat. And I got a snow suit second hand, as I doubt I'll use it much, though I'd definitely recommend getting snow pants next year. As long as she's not getting soaked, DD1 loves the snow and we have a blast spending time outside.
  • We got her a jacket that's about the same as a sweatshirt so that's what she uses
