I don't consider myself self taught, but my mom got me into lessons because I was playing nursery songs like twinkle little star on my little tinker piano when I was 3-4yo. I started lessons at 5 only because the instructor agreed to take me (she only takes kids 7+). I was playing original Beethoven in middle school.
I'd like to learn guitar.
If they want to or show interest. Or maybe let them try, if they like it and want to continue, cool. I have been trying to get H to agree about buying a piano for the house. I can teach them on my own if that happens.
I am pretty musical all around. I took choir in school and was in a professional ballet company from 16-22. It would be nice if they enjoyed music as well. But if not, whatever.
I play a little piano and can play drums(drums I learned in band class), dh taught me piano. I mostly sing and have been in choir since elementary and singing at our church for since junior high. I would love to learn more of the piano, violin, and guitar. Now my husband is super talented, he knows how to play piano, guitar, drums and violin very well. He even composes his own music. He taught himself piano and had a couple of lessons for guitar but overall he taught himself. I know he plans on teaching her quite a few instruments. If she ends up not being interested then it's NBD.

It's a girl!!! (:
Madison arrived on May 19th at 6:35 am (:
Growing up my mother insisted all four of us kids take piano, a string instrument (violin) and a woodwind (I picked the flute). Personally, I thought it was a bit overboard. With my older kids, I did insist they try an instrument when their school offered band (beginning in 4th grade). My daughter played in the band at school grades 4-8, then dropped it in high school. My son took one year of trumpet and hated it. I let him quite after completing the year. I'll also have LO take at least one year of some instrument she chooses. I really believe it helps kids mathematically to learn to read sheet music.
I play piano, flute, guitar, ukulele and we just found a mandolin that I'm going to try and learn
I took piano lessons and learned flute in school band, self taught the stringed instruments.
LO and I are doing Kindermusik, and he LOVES it. He loves to play on my extra ukulele, and he loves to "play" the piano. As he gets older, I'll probably start giving him some structured time on the piano, and if he really starts showing true interest, I'll either give him lessons, or pay someone to give him lessons (my dad is going to send us my sister's child sized violin eventually, maybe he'll take lessons on that?)
If so, are you self taught or did you take lessons? played for 6 years in school for band. So I guess that would be lessons?? lol
If not, is there an instrument you'd like to learn to play?
Are you planning on lessons for LO(s)? Yes. He seems to really enjoy his play piano, guitar and drum. I even got him holding the guitar correctly, it's pretty cute. He also just seems to love music as well.
I play a little piano, a little guitar. Took lessons for both for a short time many years ago. My voice has really been my "instrument" although I wish I was more proficient at the other two.
Ive sang in church since I was very young, traveled with a band in my early 20s and have sang at a.lot of weddings.
I hope C is musical (like me) and athletic (like my H). We plan to start piano lessons around 4, unless of course he hates it! And I have a nice guitar to pass down when he's older.
Can you play a musical instrument? I play piano and alto saxophone. Still play piano regularly, but the sax has been neglected for a while.
If so, are you self taught or did you take lessons? Lessons
If not, is there an instrument you'd like to learn to play? I'd still like to learn guitar at some point.
Are you planning on lessons for LO(s)? For sure! I won't push the issue if she hates it, but I definitely plan to expose her to formal piano lessons at an early age and will certainly encourage her to try out a band or orchestra instrument when it's offered to her in school. I'm a big proponent for at least TRYING. If she hates it, so be it, but at least she will have given it a shot.
Can you play a musical instrument? Yes, I play violin. Playing music has been a big part of my life and I spent the better part of my youth practicing.
If so, are you self taught or did you take lessons? I took lessons for years.
If not, is there an instrument you'd like to learn to play? I bought a recorder and a piano for LO so I am starting to learn to play those too.
Are you planning on lessons for LO(s)?Yes, if he shows an aptitude. We think he might have musical genes because DH and I are both musicians, but if he is not into it, I won't push it.
Can you play a musical instrument? Classically trained violinist, masters degree in musicology, now perform semi-professionally. I'm also a classically trained pianist but violin is my primary. I play mandolin for fun.
If so, are you self taught or did you take lessons? Lessons. Lots and lots of lessons!
If not, is there an instrument you'd like to learn to play? I wanted to play the cello but my older brother did and my mom didn't want us to compete. I wish I could play drums!
Are you planning on lessons for LO(s)? Yes. Piano is a must and I will start her with lessons at age 4, then will have her choose a second instrument after a couple years if she shows aptitude and enjoys it.
Can you play a musical instrument? I used to be able to play the piano but never that well and haven't for years.
If so, are you self taught or did you take lessons? Took lessons as a kid, up through middle school (I think, can't really remember when I stopped).
If not, is there an instrument you'd like to learn to play? Not really. I love to listen to music but didn't have much aptitude in playing/performing.
Are you planning on lessons for LO(s)? If she's interested. My H keeps saying he wants her to learn to play the guitar. I think it's one of those "live vicariously through my child" things since he bought himself an electric guitar several years ago, tried to teach himself to play, and now hasn't touched the (expensive) thing in ages.

If not, is there an instrument you'd like to learn to play? I'd like to learn piano. Violin would be pretty cool, too.
Are you planning on lessons for LO(s)? If they show an interest.

I'd like it if LO was musical but as long as she gets interested in something I'm ok.
