frustrated..

My dctor finally cleared me for work and lo STILL won't take the bottle! I've tried tommy tippy, avent, medella nothing works! I thought it was because my boobs were near so I tried to get dh to give it to her and she just freaks out and won't take it.. Any suggestions? I return to work next week :(

Re: frustrated..

  • I don't have any bottle suggestions for you, but my LO, even though we use medela bottles, doesn't like bottles as much because the nipples are much longer than mine are. Sometimes he takes a bottle, other times he refuses. Hugs and sorry you have to go through this

I just feel a bit lost.. My other daughter preferred bottles over nee and it was never an issue getting her to take one.. This time its like in going to walk into day care and be like "here's my kid. You won't be able to feed her. Have fun..."
  • Have you tried MAM ... They market for transition from breast to bottle. That's what we used to DS and he love the nipples. They are more flat. We went through: Dr. Browns, Playtex Ventaire, Medela and Avent before finally trying and winning with MAM.
  • We were having the same issue and now we are having some luck with Playtex ventaire.ether nipple is a bit long, but once she gets on it, she goes to town.
  • I seriously wish I could just pull my boob off and send it to day care.. Lol

Lol!! You're so funny!! I'm sorry you're dealing with this. I didn't have this problem. LO just makes monster messes. It sounds like you've tried everything I can think of!! I'm really sorry. :( I like the way you'll drop your LO off though. "K. Sorry. Bye!"

You've probably tried this. But when my LO was having trouble I warmed up the bottle, I thought I made her "more excited" lol! Idk!! She probably doesn't give a shit. But maybe?
  • DD had major issues with bottle refusal. It was one of the main reasons I decided not to breastfeed DS. I could not go through that again. The only thing that worked was dropping her off with either my mom or my MIL and having them basically force feed her a bottle until she decided to take it without a fight (within reason.... if she wouldn't drink it all after trying for a certain amount of time, they stopped). We did it just about every single day for a month. Even then, she still refused to take a bottle for either me or DH until she was 10 months old, at which point she abruptly stopped nursing and only wanted bottles (I think my supply had started diminishing and she didn't like it).

I'm sorry you're going through it.... until it happened to us, I had never even heard of bottle refusal. It's very stressful. There's a good chance your LO will start to take a bottle after she realizes that's her only option to eat when you're gone. Some babies reverse cycle and refuse to eat all day, then are up more often throughout the night to eat. Good luck, I hope she starts cooperating soon!

  • I will say we had more success when we warmed the milk up more than usual. Maybe it was just the right timing though? And to start, I had to get it to him before he threw a hungry fit. DH has the most success when he puts him in his car seat - I think it gives DH the right angle instead of him trying to so something with both hands at the same time. But hugs and just keep at it!!

Lol I don't think she freaking cares about the temp because its not my boob lol.. Stubborn kid.. I'm sure I'll find one out there that she likes..eventually.
  • Ok, I just had this problem with DS. He was taking bottles and then started refusing them so through trial and error I figured out to put him in a cradle position with his head facing up (not to the boob)and put a paci in then after a 30sec to 1 min he either spit out the paci or I took it out and stuck the bottle in...don't know why but that worked and he is now taking bottles again (fingers crossed it sticks!).

Problem is I can't get her to take pacis either.. :( I've tried a bunch of different ones..
