3rd Trimester

I know its been discussed a million times but...

This stupid hip pain at night is miserable! I seriously feel like my entire pelvis is going to just shatter! Its bearable during the day but at night its so painful! I was just going to ride it out (im 31 weeks) but my dr. suggested a chiropractor which I may have to consider. Ive never been to one and felt a little weird doing something like that for the first time while pregnant.

Re: I know its been discussed a million times but...

  • I've been going to a chiropractor since I was 26 weeks for hip and lower back pain. You should be fine.

  • 2 months is a long time to be in pain. I've been having pelvic and low back pain, my OB referred me for physical therapy. It has helped a lot.

  • Memory foam topper worked wonders for me.
  • I went to a chiropractor a few months ago to try to ease my sciatic nerve pain. Just know that the chiropractor is never a quick fix. They always want you to come back 2 or 3 times a week for several weeks.
Also, contact your insurance first because some plans, like mine, allow you a certain amount of "free" (no co-pay) visits with your chiropractor while your pregnant.
  • I started going to a chiro for the first time during this pregnancy and it's been amazing. I am no longer in pain. But I echo PP's comment that it's not a one time fix. I go every week or two and I have a copay for each visit. You should check your costs with your insurance company.

  • I am a physical therapist into my 3rd tri recently.  My sacroiliac joint pain was very severe in mid 2nd tri and is getting better.  I have been doing all core and hip ex and stretches that are safe to do in pregnancy and still was having problems.  My life saver was a simple compression belt (The Compressor) that I wear part time at work and it's helped tremendously! Currently, I don't need to wear it anymore :)

^^^^^^^a thousand times THIS. Just got one this week and it's the first time this pregnancy (or any pregnancy) that I was able to not only sleep through the night, I never even changed positions once. I consider that a small miracle.
YES!  We unrolled it and I was out like a light 10 minutes later.  Best sleep ever!!!!
  • I have burning hip pain.  I guess it's nerve pinching?  I have to wake up and flip over.  The worst part about all of your answers is that I have a TEMPURPEDIC mattress!  It's all memory foam!  HA.  So that's not a great solution.  Is this the same hip pain you're all feeling?  It's not an ache, it's a sharp burning with skin numbness.  As soon as I flip over it stops.  I'm assuming the extra weight/pressure is making the nerve in the joint pinch more than normal.
  • Honestly--mine was brutal too. I finally decided to just try a pillow between my legs at night and it has worked wonders for me! Some tylenol PM (which also helps with the insomnia) and the pillow and Ive been golden! Now if only I could find a cure for peeing 100 times a night!  :))
  • Chiropractors are heaven!
