Who has GD?

I just got the call that two of my four draws were not good. Not sure how high yet I'll see doc today. I'll be treated as a diabetic for the rest of my pregnancy. They want to have some one check my blood for three weeks. Ummm I can do that myself. I have a sister that is diabetic and many other that can help me. Should I do my own blood or have a service do it? It won't be convenient at all for a service.

Re: Who has GD?

  • I was just told I'm NOT diabetic with this pregnancy, but was with my last two.

After my GTT, I never had anyone else draw my blood for GD. I was given a monitor and test strips and tested 4 times per day. I also saw a nutritionist regularly (weekly at first, then we'd skip a week here or there depending on how it was going).

  • There have been several of these threads recently. i would look there.

I don't understand why they would be checking your blood? When they told me i have it they gave me a prescription for my monitor, strips, and lances.

Unless you mean they want to draw blood for labs on a regular basis?

  • I have it, I've had it all 3 pregnancies. First one I controlled with diet, 2nd I was on injections and this one I'm taking oral insulin and diet. I check my sugars 4 times a day. I've only gained 4 lbs so far and baby is thriving. I think normally you check your own levels and if its fluctuations are an issue you would talk to your dr. They also should give you a nutritionist to help you get started. Diet is huge, watch the carbs cause they will get you
