Daily activities

if you're still at home with LO all day, what does your day look like? What kind of activities do you do?

I can pretty much guarantee that I'm not doing enough. I go back to work in 1.5 weeks so I'm being selfish and just want to snuggle all day! We should be doing more tummy time (ped said 30 min a day!!) but it seems like after a couple minutes he's either spitting up or getting frustrated. I do want to start reading to him too. Let's see. I'll prop him up on my legs and make faces and smile at him which is always fun. And of course he plays on his activity mat too. I also sit around and marathon Netflix shows though!

So maybe I am doing more than I thought?!

You day sounds exactly like ours! I figure I can start reading to him soon, right? And he hates tummy time, so I definitely don't do it as much as they say one should...
Phew! Glad I'm not the only one!

  • Yup same as u OP! sometimes we go on a walk depending on weather, and at least once a week go on errands (grocery store, target, etc). I've gotten more efficient in doing things around the house but for the most part it's feeding, changing, snuggles, naps and netflix and me eating somewhere in there. I've recently taken on the project of going threw my entire closet to reorganize and get rid of stuff... I'm on day two and no where near done lol

  • Our day is the same. She sleeps after her 6/7 feed, so we snuggle in bed until 8:30/9. Then we just cycle through playing/napping/eating. She likes looking at a picture book we have, so that's all the "reading" we've done so far. She hates tummy time with a passion, so I try to do a few sessions throughout the day on an exercise ball, the boppy, or on me. I work part time from home so I try to get some work done while she plays or naps.

  • We have the safari activity gym and the kick piano mat that he loves.  We also already read books while he's sitting in his bouncy seat.  He doesn't really look at the book much but I point to the pictures and tell him what everything is...we're still building a budding vocabulary either way I figure.  He really loves going outside and looking at the trees and leaves...he's going to be an outdoor boy like DH.  We have a mobile in his crib that projects on to a canopy that he loves.  I put him in there while I'm getting dressed and he giggles at the lights and spinning animals.  Other than that, lots of snuggles and silly baby talk which he now finds very funny.  Baby giggles are the best!
  • We go for a walk, we read at least one book a day, he loves his play mat, and he loooooves tummy time. He sits in his bumbo and his exersaucer.

We also cuddle and we chat and he practices rolling and standing in me.

  • Lots of activity mat time. We do one or two books a day, usually toward evening. I sing songs and nursery rhymes, do hand games like "itsy bitsy spider" or "this little piggie", or I'll sit him facing me on the boppy and we'll have "conversations" and I'll make silly faces at him.

He's also really good about sitting in his baby bjorn chair and watching while I cook or fold laundry etc., and I'll narrate my chores to him, and a couple times a week we'll run errands.

Tummy time is probably about 30 minutes a day, combination of yoga ball, floor mat, or with a bolster under his chest.

  • Same here - I feel like I should do more, but we spend most days eating, sleeping, and hanging out on the couch making faces.  Once a week I try to take on some project that takes much longer than I think it should - last week it was making chicken stock, this week it was going through and organizing hand me downs.

  • We do tummy time and quite a bit of time on her activity mat. Her big sister is always entertaining her too. We sing songs and make silly faces. Since I have DD1 too sometimes she just sits on my lap while I do crafts or preschool with the older one.

  • A lot of making faces and "talking" back and forth. I'll also take her Elmo, Cookie Monster, or other stuffed animal and talk to her with those as well. Some days we read a book (she loves the illustrations); other days it's just the finger puppet books with the nursery rhymes. We also play a lot of Disney songs and sing to her. Then there's the activity mat, the sit-me-up floor seat, and the Baby Bjorn chair that we alternate throughout the day. You know, I've felt so guilty at times, thinking I'm not doing enough with her, but when you put it down on paper (computer?), it sounds like more. So thanks for this thread!

The one thing I do feel really negligent about though is tummy time. We have a mat with a bolster. We try on our tummies. She just hates it and will scream bloody murder until we either pick her up or she eventually passes out from the exhaustion. I don't do it enough for this reason and I feel like I'm going to have a 16 year old kid who can't hold her head up, because mama couldn't handle her tears during tummy time.
I'm being featured in a new pregnancy/motherhood blog during the month of October, so if you ever wanted to know more about my pregnancy, birth, and motherhood experiences than anyone ever should, check out my posts in the link below! :)

  • He lays under his activity mat, hangs out in the swing, hangs out in the RnP. I spend some time talking to him and making faces but most of my day is spent trying to keep his giant brother from stepping on, laying on, smothering, and basically mauling him.

  • It sounds like you already do a lot. You should look for the "let's play" app. It has ideas on how to play with LO when you are doing chores, driving, when LO is just bored. It gave me some fun ideas to do with my little guy.

Also, it's never too early to start reading. I read to my little man at least three times a day before I went back to work, and his daycare ladies were really impressed that he was the only one who knew to look at the pictures. I am hoping it set the stage for him to love reading.
  • Activity mat, chit chat, sing songs, read touch and feel books (we don't always read the whole book bc he gets busy grabbing at the crinkle pieces) some tummy time (need to amp that up) and we talk to the baby in the mirror. I think I need to change out the toys on the activity mat. I wish I had more for him to play with. I'm going to check out the app pp mentioned.
  • He usually does the best in his swing right after he wakes up so I put him in that while I get my breakfast and cup of coffee and watch the news for a bit. Then he gets his bottle. (Sometimes thoes two are reversed though.) Then there are several cycles of play (making funny faces, singing songs, photo session, tummy time ect.) eat, sleep. I try to get my "chores" done while he's sleeping but he is a cat napper so it's hard to get much done. I usually get the bulk of the cleaning done once daddy gets home and can entertain baby for me.
