Boredom is consuming me. All these birth announcements are great to read, but I need some non-baby related thoughts.

Will you have a Real or Fake tree this year ?

  • Fake tree! I have an irrational fear that a real tree will dry out and burn the house down.

  • Growing up we always had fake, but since having DD we have gotten real. I'm not sure what we will do this year. We don't have room for a tree this year, but I can't imagine not having some type.

  • Not sure yet. Before we moved back to Indiana when we owned our home we had both. Real tree upstairs in the living room right in front of big floor to ceiling window and hardwood floors (easier to sweep up needles). Then a fake tree in the family room downstairs (carpet not so easy to clean pine needles out).

Now that we are in a townhouse with limited living space we most likely will just put the fake one up this year. Sad Panda.

  • Fake. I'm allergic to real trees and it makes my asthma flare up. :(( :((

It's very shameful but we have four trees in our house to make up for it.

  • Real small tree. Like, table top small. We get the one with lights on it and decorate the rest of the house with decorations. When LO gets bigger we will spring for a bigger tree. I love the smell of a real tree, even if it's miniature!
  • Our first real tree! I'm super excited lol
  • I voted special snowflake because this year we will have a fake tree, but in two years when we move to a bigger house, we will beging getting a real tree every year!
As a child it was so special to go to the tree farm and pick out a tree together as a family--even if we didn't always agree right away! DH and I are excited to start that tradition with our children as soon as we are able :)
  • Doing real this year.

  • I have ALWAYS had real trees. Its been a tradition to go and cut it down ourselves. Then last year it dawned on me that these trees are riddled with pesticides. I mean have you ever found any bugs on a real tree?
So this year I broke down and got a beautiful artificial one. No regrets and I can sleep a bit better knowing that all those pesticides wont be around us and the new babe.
  • Real.  This is the first year since I moved out of my parents' house that I haven't lived in an apartment, so I want a real tree after 15 years of fakery.
  • Real, but will probably get it from rite aid lol.

  • I've always had a fake tree and this year it'll be the same. I've never been into the maintenance of a real tree. Watering it frequently to make sure it doesn't dry out and pine needles everywhere.

Team real tree for life! It's not Christmas in our house without a real tree! DH always tries to convince me that a fake one will be better, but I'll never give up my real tree! Especially now with DD and LO on the way it's an amazing family experience going to pick out the tree.

Also my mom always had to have a real tree and it makes me feel close to her now that she has passed since Christmas was her favorite time of year.

  • We get a real tree every year. We'll get one from Home Depot this year, but when Cameron is old enough we'll drive to Prescott and chop one down from a farm. I loved doing that when I was a kid. Such a fun tradition!

  • Fake.  I refuse to deal with tiny pine needle things all over my floor.

  • Special Snowflake here! We have both. We have a big house so we can get away with it and I like having my fake tree up early so we can enjoy it longer. But the real tree smell is amazing and a must for me.

@mommymeg143 - so you might think I'm a complete nut job but my mom and I used to suffer with really bad allergies from our real trees. The guy at the tree lot told us it's probably not the tree itself but the dust from sitting outside and all the other tree pollens etc. He suggested we wash the tree at a car wash before we bring it in. It sounds crazy and you totally look crazy washing a tree in the car wash. BUT it works. We would wash it the day before we wanted to put it up and Let it dry in the garage overnight. We didn't have any problems after we started washing them. Just in case you ever want to be crazy and have a real tree. :)

  • We do a fake tree, but this is only because I called DH's bluff several years ago.  He's not as into Christmas decorating as I am and after a year in which all of our animals decided to make our tree an indoor potty he came down with the ultimatum: no tree or fake tree.  So I agreed to the fake tree.  He honestly thought I'd choose no tree! Ha!

While I love real trees, I do appreciate the ease of the fake tree: no need to figure out how to get it home, cut lower branches, clean up all those fallen needles... and - at least so far - none of our animals have thought it's a potty.

  • White lights?? Whaaaaa!?!? My UO for today- Christmas must include multi colored lights. Must. The ones that twinkle are cool too.
  • We do a fake tree every year. We've got a nice one that I really love :). I do enjoy the smell of a real tree, but I don't enjoy the upkeep and cleaning lol.

  • Fake and prelit. My cat likes to climb up real trees and tries to eat the pine needles. It is a losing battle.

  • Fake and I'm also on Team White Lights. DH is Team Colored Lights so we got a prelit tree that has both and we're going to switch them everyday so we both get what we want. :-)

  • We have a fake one cause we're too poor to get a tree every year and I like to decorate early. My in laws insist on real trees and we're over there all the time so I like to think we get to enjoy both.

  • I am on team colored lights. Nothing against white lights....just not my cup of tea. We have multi colored lights and lots of them. Ornaments are mostly hand made (I love Christmas crafts-another tradition). Once the special ornaments are all on, Then we just fill in the spaces with the plain glass bulbs.

  • I'd like a real tree but DH is allergic to so many things we have to go fake.
  • My cats and my insistence and Christmas trees should be up for at least 5 weeks dictate that I shall always have a fake tree. By which I mean four fake trees - each with a special theme. Don't judge my obsession.
When we had a fake tree for a couple years after getting married (living in an apartment) our cats would bug the tree.  Chew on it, knock it over, one year one of the cats chewed through the lights and electrocuted himself even though it was on a switch that was turned off that wasn't supposed to allow electricity to the lights when off (kitty is fine now, just down one life).  So we got a real tree.  They sniff it some and will lay under it before the presents get there but other than that they leave it alone.  We think the needles poke them and keep them away.
