Cloth Diapering

indoor winter activities

I know there have been related threads on keeping a toddler occupied with a newborn around, but let's revisit this again. I already feel like I need more stuff to keep V occupied and happy, and it's only the 2nd day of real cold. I at least got mittens on him today too, so hopefully we can still go outside a little bit.

Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste,
    It all revolves around you.

There is a Facebook page call The Imagination Tree. It has a ton of really cool craft projects/ideas. A lot of it looks really easy. There are a bunch of activities/games that you can make at home for the little ones.

Around here there are also a few indoor kid gym/trampoline/etc places that you can get a membership to. Something like that once a week in the winter months would get out a bunch of energy!

  • We have a bunch of toddler level windows.  I was thinking of buying DS some dry erase markers to use on them.  Or do you think that would encourage him to draw on everything in the house?
  • Cellophane peper on a window, cut some geometric chapes and spry some water on a window or mirror and let him put in on it, you can also draw on it to make it more fun. Cut some vegetable and use it as a stamp with organic paint or a washable liquid tempera. Teach him to count with pompoms put one by one in a bottle or you can use plastic cups and put a number on the bottom of the cup. If you have a clear piggy back you can use it to put buttons or pocker ship on it. Do some origami, something simple. That's it I have no more ideas for the moment.

  • I almost forget, a salt shaker and toothpicks, let him put the toothpick in side the salty shaker. I also suggest the kinetic sand. And if you have a big mirror the you can put on the flor, use it and put any kind of latter, geometric shapes or anything on it he will be amuse of see things on the mirror.

  • @stoneycakes‌ I'd be hesitant to let my toddler loose with dry erase markers. Our window trim is white, and is be worried it would stain.

  • We have window crayons and markers. They're fine. Theyre a pain to wash off. I have watch my kids like a hawk with them though especially around the trim. I don't know how your kids feel about baths, but on cold days I move bathtime to midday and my kids would play forever in there. We also have tub crayons and those I would recommend. additionally we paint with shaving cream/food coloring in the tub.
V is still pretty mouthy... even at 20mo... I feel like he would try to eat the shaving cream. But it would taste pretty bad right, so he would figure out that's no good, right?

We tried coloring again today, and it was hit! He was never all that into it, never coloring for more than 5min really. He just kept going today.

And Z, we do have a big mirror I could let him play with! That is fabulous.

I tried the wall tunnels, and he just likes to take the tape off of them. I should really go to the store to get some more stickers.... he loved those too.

I'll have to check out the imagination tree.

Thanks all! This week and weekend have been pretty sucky as far as keeping his routine/naps going. So there have been lots of points where he is just an overtired crab. Plus today I just felt like I hit a wall, and I had no motivation to get anything done or find something creative to do.
  • Okay.  I'll look into the crayons.  I've been looking for alphabet window clings and haven't found any I've liked yet.
  • DS likes to stick cards in my printer and jam it up. So, today I'm making a Royal Mail postbox for him out of a shoebox, hopefully that will be a more attractive place for him to put his cards.
  • I totally spent $50 at the dollar store today, buying things for DS to do inside.  I read way too much of the Imagination Tree page last night, haha.
