Activities, Toys, Gear...

I feel like LO is at an awkward stage where she can't sit up by herself but no longer wants to sit in her bouncer or swing. She's content to lay on her activity mat for about 5 minutes but then is all set with that too. She'll sit in her highchair with toys on the tray but within 2-3 minutes the toys are on the floor and she's squirming to get out.

So...  What toys do you find them most interested in? What sort of activities do you do with them at home to keep them entertained and occupied?

  • Have you tried these types of toys for the highchair?  LO will play for a while with these since she can't knock them off.

LO also loves her exersaucer.  We do a lot of dancing and airplane.  She loves splashing in the bath so we let her do that for awhile.  It is hard!

  • Lately Luka's favorite thing to do is just lay on a blanket on thr floor with all his toys. I'll interact 50% of the time, but he likes independence, too.We do some tummy time, back, side, etc. Sometimes we prop up in the boppy pillow. We look at books.

He hung out like that for 2 hours the other day. Iccouldn't go too far but it was nice down time for both of us.

  • Ha. I bought a Fisher Price Touch and Crawl Tiger for Christmas and set it aside. LO spotted it though, and kept staring at it (I think he liked the stripes). I want to give it to him now!

  • DS does a variety of things.  He has a Bumbo.  I also have a play rug that I'll lay him on and he likes to roll over and over and over on it ;).  He does sit up fairly well but does fall over some.  He has an activity mat that has dangling toys.  I sit with him and play with him with his shape sorter and stacking cups.

  • C loves his jumper. He'll play in that for a while. He recently discovered the tag on his play mat and is obsessed with it. We have a taggie rag that he loves too.

  • @flojo973‌ I'll have to get that!

I have the FP ring set but she just sort of pushes the rings around and will pick them up and try to put them in her mouth. I was thinking of getting a jumper (the kind that suspends from a doorway). Perhaps we need to take a trip to toys r us...

  • My lo LOVES his baby Einstein videos (I have two). He will literally sit in his chair and not move for the whole 20 minutes it's on! I highly recommend buying one! Lately I've also spent a lot of time sitting behind him while he is sitting up playing with his toys. I swear he is getting stronger everyday.
  • Right now we have been reading books, jumping in the bouncer, laying on the couch and "talking", and chewing on teethers. She kind of loses interest in the Oball and her "lovey" after a couple minutes, and hasn't been digging her activity mat as much either. The swings have been out of rotation for a while now.

I just ordered her some Christmas presents including that snail all you guys have so I hope she will like that (and I can keep it for Christmas and not cave and give it to her early).

  • Ok I have to ask, is Sophie really that great? Seems like a lot of ppl has it
  • @kamilasekowska‌ - DS loves it. You know who loves it more? My dog. He just sits and stares at the baby playing with it, waiting for Sophie to hit the floor.

  • Hi, new to this board :) My LO really likes her activity mat/ gym. She also likes to lay on a blanket with her favorite toys. She just loves this teething puppy that we got from a friend (I have seen similar at Walmart) it has a rattle and crinkly ears, and it's paws are nubby plastic. I read to her a lot. We practice sitting up and "standing". I dance with her and we sing a lot of songs. When the weather is nice, she loves to go for a walk in her stroller. We walk around the house and look at different things too. We also have a bouncer. She is pretty happy as long as she has a toy to chew on and I am nearby.
  • I got baby Einstein DVDs on ebay. Only got 1st one , baby Mozart but LO likes it a lot
  • @skittler2‌ I find them in thrift stores for about $2.00 each.

Haha my dog goes nuts when she squeeks it!! LO loved it until we lost it in a restaurant last week :(

Thoughts on Jolly Jumpers?? I'm going to pick up a used one with a stand tomorrow. I feel like she will like it just not sure if I'm wasting my money.
  • Lately LO has been obsessed with the dog. He loves watching her do stuff and likes to try to touch her. That hold his attention for awhile. Otherwise he rolls around on the floor with his toys, sits in bumbo, hangs out in the infant to toddler rocker, and sometimes plays the piano on his playmat while I sit behind him for support. I feel like we are constantly rotating activities since nothing lasts very long.

  • LO really enjoys her activity mat now that I got different dangling toys for it, she was becoming bored with it but it's interested again with this little more complex toys. SIL got her Cora the Smart Cuba and she's really into it lately.

  • Ditto on the dog - LO has recently become intrigued by our chocolate lab. He loves to watch him walk around, chew on a bone, etc. He especially loves it when the dog is playing and makes funny noises (or licks his face....ew). Our dog is really great with the baby (although I know he is jealous) and will sit there patiently while DS "pets" him/grabs his nose/etc. Obviously I would never leave them alone together just in case, but our dog seems very protective and tolerant of E. We spend a lot of time sitting with the dog and watching/petting him.

  • @MrsAy I never thought to replace the toys on her mat. I will try that!! Thanks!

  • I bought a couple of the toys that suction to her high chair and she seems to love them! She's also started purposely reaching for things (toys, our faces, etc) and it's so cute to watch her concentrate, reach and grab whatever is in front of her. She recently has become obsessed with our dog and laughs hysterically whenever the dog walks into the room. Our dog is very tolerant of LO as she grabs onto her fur, pokes her in the eye, etc. I feel like the past week has been a huge change and with the purchase of a few toys mentioned in this thread and LO becoming more secure sitting up (with me right there), it's not so awkward.
