rant: forgetfulness

I hate this constant feeling like I've forgotten something. Then it just gets worse when I DO forget 5 different (important!) things during the day. Throw in a sick kid to fluster me and I'm guaranteed to forget at least twice that today! And all I can think is, I cannot get sick!

They say pregnancy brain is not a real thing, but that's just not true! How much are you guaranteed to forget today?

Re: rant: forgetfulness

  • I am forgetting everything, always. I started keeping a running to-do list on my phone and can concentrate enough to get my work done correctly at work, but that's really about it.
  • Loading the player...
  • I have to write everything down. I thought I was a little forgetful before, but this is getting ridiculous.
  • I keep a notebook next to me at all times. Living room, office, mini one in my purse, it doesn't matter. My forgetfulness is just awful.

  • Thanks ladies, I need to start keeping a list by me! But then I'll forget where I put it! lmao

ACH831, thank you. It's just a low grade fever right now, but she slept with us last night. I hope it's just a 24 hour thing, but if it had been this time last year I'd be bringing her to the doctor for a strep test (her complaints sound a lot like strep and she had a lot of it last year). She had her tonsils out this spring, so I keep telling myself... "It can't be strep, it can't be strep... can it?" It shouldn't be strep! Argh. And that's pretty funny about forgetting words. I'm doing that too, but it must be really frustrating being a lawyer where words are so important!
  • I forget a lot nowadays. It makes sense because my brain is always going 1000mi/second, I'm bound to forget things. I think it's because I move from thought to thought too fast and it pushes the last thought right out of my mind. This past weekend H and I went out to eat before going grocery shopping. Before leaving I pulled out the grocery list so I wouldn't have to dig through my purse once I got to the store. Great thought in theory, but I ended up leaving the list right on the table. I'm sure a grocery list tip was not as valuable to the waiter as it was to me. Then my memory was really put to the test.

(The waiter did get a real tip also...)

  • @Josie400, I do the same thing! I take something out and hold it in my hand thinking that will help me remember. Then I set it down and can't find it anymore.  :-S
  • I am right there with you @ACH831‌ I am always searching for the right term and am constantly having to find a different word or define it so I can get my point across! It's really frustrating and makes me feel just stupid! I know it's the preggo brain but still... I also am religious about my calendar for any events because I won't remember anything. A grocery list is a must, even if I make it minutes before walking into the store. It still took me 4 trips to never remember bar soap before my DH bought it for us (without me asking). And of course to think that this will get better when LO gets here is high high hopes... With the sleep deprivation and raising a child we will never be the brains we were 7 months ago! At least we'll be ridiculously happy to have our LO's :)

  • Yes, pregnancy brain is REAL! A few weeks ago, I was going to my best friend's bridal shower and I forgot her gift. I had to drive home and get it (which delayed me by 30 minutes). It was totally annoying!

  • Pregnancy brain is SO real! I made T's lunch for work today, and had it sitting on the counter waiting for him to bring his lunch box in because he left it in the car. He brought it in and I filled it with his waters for the night, but then forgot to put his food in it! He left with no food and called at 9:30 on lunch to tell me that he was on his way to Taco Bell to get his lunch because his lunch box only had water in it... Whoops.
  • Words are hard. Very hard. H has gotten used to me fumbling with words and getting frustrated before I just say "you should just know what I'm trying to say". (Even though I've given him nothing but gibberish by that time).

  • My worst prego brain fail is failing to stop at a stop sign even after stopping behind a car that stopped at the stop sign... Yeah purchasing my car seat has to wait another month because I now have a ticket to pay off SMH
  • I had a project I was working on for my boss on Tuesday morning.  Someone came and distracted me for help on another issue, I spent the rest of the work day trying to figure out what I had been doing that morning ... Spent all of Weds trying to remember what I had been working on Tuesday morning.  Finally got a reminder email from the boss today about the project (luckily didnt need it until next week), and I worked for half a day on one of my days off to get it done ..... before I forgot again.

  • That's a rough one @rainbows, sorry that happened!
  • I've been misplacing things constantly.locked the keys in the car a few times, forget what I just diwasn'tomeoneforks me...I feel so dumb and useless! but the worst..(see I can't think of the word I'm looking for here...) ugh idk,I guess u cld say the most costly of all the pregnancy brain moments happened last week when I totally forgot I had a court date! it wasn't even for anything that would have caused me to go 2 jail but since I forgot and didn't go now I have a failure to appear so I've got a warrant for my arrest over that! my SO actually was the one who realized I'd missed court and we went to the courthouse yest to file a motion to recalendar, but I wont b going b4 a judge until Dec 15th for that so I'll hav the warrant until then and I'll owe$200 for the failure to appear! So this is by far the most upsetting thing I've done bc that money could go toward my daughter but instead ive got to watch my back in fear of getting served with a warrant and also spend$200 all thx 2pregnancy brain!
