  By type and then by color. It always ends up getting messed up, though. I currently need to clean out my closet.

  I have the stuff I wear most easiest to get to, then by sleeve length, then by color.

  We have his and hers closets. Mine is tank tops, shirts, dresses, pants. DH's is organized by like 50 different rules. Needless to say, I put his clothes on hangers and then put them over the chair at our vanity for him to put away.

  My closet is a disorganized mess. I always think about organizing but I know it will slowly become disorganized again. I will get annoyed with having to put stuff away a certain way and end up saying eff it.

  By type and then formality I don't hang too much clothes though, most of them are folded also by types

       

  Surprise BFP on 11/02/12 EDD 07/06/13 --> Express wedding on 12/29/2012 --> G was born on 07/15/13

  By season, by type, and by formality (everyday, work, evening).  This is in an ideal world.  Then I am rushing to get things put away and my system goes to hell.

  I only hang his shirts. I color coordinate them, but I also separate by type. Short sleeved, long sleeved, outerwear. I have way too many of them!

  Pretty much this. Stuff we wear a lot tends to move front and center, stuff we don't use as much moves to the edges.
