  • We started out using pampers, but at that time people were having problems with the Dry Max causing chemical burns. DS ended up getting a burn on his little butt cheek so we switched to Luvs. They really just fit him better, leaked less, and weren't as bulky as the others so we stuck with them.

  • I would not say one is better than the other.  What tends to happen is that you try a specific brand and may start having problems (blowouts, leaking, etc) so you switch to another brand.  Usually when you find the one that works, that is the best diaper.

When we use disposables we use Honest Co diapers.  They work great for DD but I buy them mostly for the super cute prints (and of course the eco-friendly, hypoallergenic, free of chlorine and other additives, etc, etc, etc).

  • Agree w/pp.  Totally depends on baby's shape- skinny v chunky legs, hip width, etc.  We used Pampers swaddlers sensitives when we weren't CD.

  • Personally I'm sensitive (maybe I just don't like?) the scents of mainstream brands of diapers, but that's just me. I feel like I can smell them from feet away. We use honest brand and don't have any problems; I'm sure they work the same as other popular brands out there. We use seventh generation overnight diapers at night and they are great. Trial and error!

  • Huggies fall off my daughter's little tush, Pampers are great but expensive, Up & Up (Target) are our go-to brand, Kirkland (Costco) seem to give her diaper rash.

I use whatever is cheapest and doesn't cause her an adverse reaction!

  • Thanks ladies ... I guess I will go with the flow ...
  • As previous pp have said, it all depends on your experiences, likes, whatever it may be.  We started with huggies then moved to luvs but because they leaked we tried the Target brand and loved them.  So, that's the one we use for DD.  It might be different for this little one.

  • We use Honest for disposables and love them.  We started with Pampers swaddlers for the NB and they worked great as well.  Don't buy too many of one brand before the baby is here, you will figure out what works best for your child.

  • Yep, you won't know till baby gets here! My whole family swore by Huggies, but they just didn't fit DS well. We ended up loving Pampers and Honest because those worked better for DS.

  • I so wanted to be able to use honest brand (so freaking cute! ) but they just leaked and leaked and leaked for me. When using disposables we are primarily luvs and we FINALLY found huggies overnights work 80% of the time w/o leaks for us. It seriously took months of trying different things until we found them. Our problem is wetness doesnt wake Henry bug up, hes just SOAKING wet in the morning.

  • I uses Pampers for the first 6 months, then Huggies, (they are about the same price). I liked each brand for different reasons. Later, we moved on to LUVS. I did NOT like those. They were way cheaper, but so thin and gross. I felt Pampers were fancier lol.

  • Last time, we got a few packs of different brands as gifts. We liked pampers best but we also get the cheaper sam's club brand. Whatever works for you. You will learn as you go along.

I've preferred different brands for different babies. It's trial and error.
  • I registered for pampers and also plan on having a beer/diaper party for my hubby so im hoping pampers works!
  • Just don't stock up without checking return policies and keeping receipts (says a many time mom). Luvs gave my first two kids vicious diaper rash. Pampers are ok but they didn't fit my kids as well as huggies. Target brand are ok but I don't switch to them until my babies get past that newborn/early infant stage (4-6 months).

I love pampers sensitive wipes for my babies--very gentle.
  • Annabelle pees through Honest Co. and every poop is a blow out. When she was a newborn we loved Huggies. Then she kept peeing out of them and going up a size did nothing so we switched to Pampers and haven't had to change again.
  • I use pampers newborn and then huggies all the way. Once the littles are sleeping through the night I buy huggies overnights bc I always have issues with leaking w my kids at night. Expensive, but dealing w explosions and leaks is a huge pet peeve. I use Walmart brand sensitive baby wipes. Hate most other generic sensitive brands.
  • I got all different brands from our baby shower with DD. She would have and still has an allergic reaction to Huggies. So we stuck with pampers swaddlers. When I started buying them we tried Target brand and we use those now. They always run specials on them and a lot cheaper.
  • We started with Pampers swaddlers while DS was little (NB and some size 1). Got Luvs at my baby shower so used those next (size 1 as well). DS kept having poopy blow-outs of near liquid EBF poop, so we switched to Huggies since those had the waistband that cinched in/elastic-y in the back where Pampers and Luvs do not. Stuck with Huggies since they also seem to fit his legs better than Pampers or Luvs. I get the cheaper ones (Snug n Dry) at Costco when they are on sale. Also, Huggies overnights were great once DS was size 3 (I'm not sure if they come much smaller) because he would pee through the normal diapers and his PJs and sheets would be wet by the middle of the night.

But as most people have said before, it all depends on how the diaper fits your little one, since each brand is cut slightly differently or may cause a rash/reaction.

As for wipes I like the Pampers Sensitive or the Kirkland Brand (from Costco)

  • I'm doing cloth this time but with my other 2 I liked Target brand the best.

  • Try a few. Don't buy huge boxes of one kind or size. DS leaked through huggies as a newborn so i switched to pampers. Now I just buy whatever is on sale between the two of them.

    I actually recommend this website:

    www.diaperdabbler.com

You can buy packs that sample across 6-7 different brands. They sell the packs at various sizes, for babies that change shape as they grow.

The samplers also make great shower gifts.

Ooooh I'm stealing this idea! Thanks!
  • I've been told by a few different moms that Pampers Swaddlers for newborns are really great. We received some at our showers but my In-laws are going to pay for a cloth diaper service for us so I'm not putting too much thought into it. I would try a few and see what works best for you!!
  • Honest company here. Love them. Using the pull-up version now.

A note about wipes: check ingredients. If one of the ingredients is alcohol (and other terms that mean alcohol) don't use them. Alcohol is drying. Oddly pampers sensitive wipes have alcohol in them. We learned this and got rid of them. Huggies don't have alcohol and neither do honest company. So that's what we use.

  • I am going to ask all of my friends to buy me diapers. KIDDING. ;) We did pampers swaddles for #1 and then switched to the pampers cruisers. With #2 we started w/ pampers and went to Kirkland brand.

  • I used pampers the entire time with DD. I used a random sample from other brands here & there, but liked them the best. The only time I had issues was when they were on the brink of being too small...

  • The hospital used huggies, so we used that brand at the beginning and didn't have too much of an issue.  A friend recommended the target brand, so we switched and have used them ever since.  Oddly, I wouldn't use any of the other store brands, they have all been to thin.  I bought some diapers on the military base (generic brand) and the tabs kept pulling off.

  • Pampers sensitive Swaddlers for newborns and Ive stuck them and cloth diapers for most of her life, she's about to be 2.  When Babyganics and EarthBest are on sale, Ill snag them.

natsgirl12  thanks for the note about wipes - Ive been using Pampers sensitive for two years and didnt know...
  • I don't know about anything else other than Pampers Swaddlers ... My daughter is 1 and they only leaked when she was outgrowing the size she wore.

  • I've used huggies, pampers, and luvs. I did have a lot more blow outs with huggies the first several weeks. But my boys both have super senstive skin so we had to use the pampers sensitive when they were 6 months and under. Dry max left some nasty rashes. So several doctors appt later and several diap creams we changed to huggies again. Then to luvs. I avoid store brands only because with each one my boys have gotten a rash.
