Itchy!!!!!!!!!

on my stomach where my stretch marks are is an itchiness like I've never ever endured! I can't handle it anymore!!! And on my hips I have tiny welts that itch like mad as well. I've heard it's not uncommon but does anyone have any suggestions as to what might soothe the itching? I've tried cocoa butter, hydrocortisone, apple cider vinegar, OB suggested taking a benidryl at night to help me sleep but it has stopped helping my itching. Any suggestions would be super helpful! Thanks!!!

Re: Itchy!!!!!!!!!

  • I've heard cold coconut oil does a great job at soothing.

This will sound weird but please hear me out. Do not wash your skin with soap anymore. Soap's very purpose is to break down the oils on your skin - usually with the use of sulfates. Use a homemade scrub with 2 parts sugar to 1 part olive oil and lightly scrub the area from your breasts to your thighs. Every time you put soap on your skin you are stripping the natural oils and increasing your itching problem. Even if your dove soap leaves emollients on the surface to trick you into thinking your skin is moisturized, it isn't. Only use the sugar scrub every other day or less. The exfoliation is nice becuase it promotes collagen production that will allow your skin to heal and stretch better, reducing itching. After the sugar scrub put on a natural oil that mimics your skin's sebum. Coconut oil and jojoba are my favorites. If the scrub feels too harsh then just slather olive, coconut, or jojoba oil on the area and wipe off with a warm wash cloth instead of washing. It's called oil cleansing and your skin will be clean and hydrated, as oil dissolves other oils.

The best way to hydrate your skin is from within, so drink tons and tons of water. 100 oz a day. Target sells 20 oz glass "ello" bottles that are an easy way to keep up with it.
