Biting

My 10 month old son has been biting me while nursing for about a month now. I've tried all the techniques and he still isn't getting the message. He usually draws blood. It's very painful and I am very anxious while nursing. Last night he bit me so hard I have a sore on my nipple.

I've decided that it's time to stop nursing but I want him to have breast milk for a year. Would it work to switch him to bottles and pump? He usually nurses 2-4 times at night and 3 times during the day. He takes a bottle great and just recently will fall asleep without nursing.

Anyone have experience with this?

    Ouch!! I have a biter too unfortunately. You could give him a bottle and pump, but that takes more effort on your part. I'd read up on biting and nursing, I know kellymom has some good articles, you may be able to stop or at least reduce the biting. Good luck!

    Ok thanks! I've tried all the suggestions on kellymom but he doesn't get it. I'll keep looking.

    Ouch, that sounds terribly painful :(  My LO has been a on a biting kick, too.  Fortunately for me, it usually only lasts for about a week right before a new tooth pops out.  I don't have any new suggestions (I usually smooth his face into me to get him to stop but I haven't had much luck with that technique lately.)  GL and hang in there!!

    If you watch him intently and remove his mouth from your breast as soon as he unlatches or stops sucking, he should be unable to bite you. Also, don't try to get him to eat if he doesn't want to.
