Any experience with post partum pelvic pain?

Has anyone experienced pelvic pain after birth? I had pretty severe SPD during my pregnancy and now my lower abdomen, my pubic bone, my hips and my lower back are so sore that I'm having a hard time getting around. I assume it will go away with time, I just don't remember being this sore for so long last time, which is surprising because my labor and delivery was better this time than last.

Re: Any experience with post partum pelvic pain?

  • When was your ds born again? I remember being sore for like 2 weeks after my delivery , to the point where I needed DH to bring me the baby because I couldn't get off the couch without help and I had to sit on the boppy. I'm sure it'll go away soon but talk to your dr and take warm baths to ease it .

I had bad SPD with my first and I am scared to death of it happening again this time.  After my delivery, I finally went back into my OB around 6 months postpartum because it was still painful.  I ended up going to physical therapy for a few months, but then the physical therapist recommended a deep tissue massage.  I ended up doing 2 rounds of massage and it was extremely painful, but the pain finally went away after that.

If I do end up getting it in this pregnancy, I will probably just go ahead and schedule massages probably after my 6 week checkup.

  • DS was born a little over 2 weeks ago so I am sure I am still recovering. Thanks for the recommendations! I will try some baths and call my midwife and see if she has any suggestions. I had it with my last pregnancy but I am wondering if not having to chase a toddler around while I was recovering made my recovery a little bit easier!

  • I didn't have SPD, but I agree that you should look into physical therapy if you think the pain is related to that. It can do wonders!

  • I still have it, and Amelia is almost three months old.  Well, mine is solely contained to my back right now.  My back hurts so bad that I have a really hard time getting up from any seated or prone position.  I know its related to being pregnant two times so close together (and being overweight, too), and then having the c/s, and not having any stomach muscles, but when I try to do core strengthening exercises, it makes my back hurt worse.  I can't tell, should I push through the pain because I need stomach muscles, or is my back hurting because I keep pushing through the pain. :(

  • I had pelvic pain for over a year PP. It eventually went away on its own.
