Ideas for Additional Income $Weekly Money Check-In$

Part I: If you have a savings goal, how is it going? Hit any roadblocks this week? Any success you want to share?

Part 2 - Increasing Income: What are some ways you can suggest to get additional income. Ideas for side jobs that can add income to your bottom line? Selling things on craiglist or ebay? Any suggestions for negotiating a pay increase at work?

We had a great list going in SPAM a couple weeks ago, but since not every can follow spam I thought I would repeat the question here.

Re: Ideas for Additional Income $Weekly Money Check-In$

  • Part 1: Waiting to hear back from my job interviews :-SS I know at this point the only way for us to get ahead with our saving is to increase income (hence the Part 2 questions this week).

Part 2: Right now I'm looking for a new job to increase my income. @34blondie inspired me I'm probably going to try to negotiate if there is an offer.

I've been reading/hearing a lot lately about turning something you enjoy into income and then trying to turn that into your full time job. I don't think its as easy to do as all the (successful) bloggers make it out to be but it is still something I think about.I'm playing around with the idea of opening an etsy shop. I've also been thinking about trying to do some sort of personal finance/budgeting consulting on the side because I enjoy everything personal finance so much. I don't think I could do it without becoming a certified financial adviser and I think that would require a full time commitment.

  • Part 1: still on track with our savings, but I have been busy lately and I feel like I am sometimes neglecting my banking. I used to take some time weekly to review everything, pay any bills that were due, etc. and lately it just seems like I'm missing that and I've been a couple days late on a few bills. I took some time on Monday to set entirely everything up on automatic payments, not only just to avoid pointless late fees but some of the bills (most actually) gave me the option to pay with my credit card so now I'm collecting points on our bills and I only have to worry about paying the credit card statements when they come in. Since they come to my email I never miss them.

Part 2: there are lots of home based businesses, and also different ways to make money online, but I agree @momofcatan, I don't think it's as easy as the bloggers say.  I am a consultant for a home-based business but I am not much of a sales person and mostly only do it for the discount for myself and to sell to the few clients that I have got overrated the years.  I maintain it because I use a lot of the products regularly and I have enough return clients that I at least make enough money to pay for all the stuff myself and my family uses.  I am learning though that there are ways to make these businesses work without doing parties.  I think I'm going to try out a few of these tricks and see how I make out.  I would really like to earn a little extra spending money through it since I've already invested the time and money to setting myself up, but I'm not much of a sales person and I personally hate being invited to a party where I feel obligated to buy something.

  • Last week was pretty good, we did well for October and I'm not sure where to put the extra cash. I may put extra to my student loan. I'm trying to convince my husband to re-up his gym membership so that he can take B and get a little break during the day. We are going to go check it out to see how they are with the kids. I think the happiness to cost ratio would be well worth it and B will get to interact with more kids.

I have no good ideas on extra income. Could someone pay me to bump, read books and watch movies? I love cooking and we've thrown around the idea of catering or cooking dinners for neighbors. I like the idea of a bakery because the hours are better than restaurant hours.

  • @lizzybizzy80 how about getting paid to do on-line surveys? That's the closest I can come to for getting paid to bump ;)

@daffy2k it would be great if you can find a way to make more commission without being the annoying party lady. Clearly you believe in the products since you use them yourself.

@steamboat My thought is I want my "extra income" to come from doing something I enjoy. If you can turn that into something you can live of off then great, if not then its extra income form something you enjoy doing with your free time.

I've thought about going to my boss to ask for more money but my company has an official "everyone gets a raise" or "no one gets a raise" announcement every year. They have "secretly" given me small raises in the past in a no raise year without me asking. Especially having just come off of a 1-year mat leave I feel like it would be hard to push that I "deserve" a raise.
