Night Terrors - anyone experience these with their children?

DD has been having night terrors every night for the past week.  Do I wake her from them or is it best to just let her calm down on her own.  I have been waking her, but it takes a lot to get her awake.  And when I try to touch her, she tries to get away from me.  After she wakes up, I give her a drink of water and she goes right back to sleep and doesnt seem to remember any of it the next day.  During them, she is crying and screaming and thrashing around her bed and kicking her legs really hard and fast.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  They seem to be happening at the same time every night...between midnight and 1am.

  • Her bedtime hasnt changed.  She has had a cold for the last 10 days.  Thats really the only thing that is different.  So, maybe she is more tired due to the cold?  Hopefully they stop soon because this every night thing is getting OLD!

  • We went through it when he was younger.  I understand how terrifying they can be.  The doctor told us that while it is scary for the parents, it typically doesn't affect the child much.  She said it was best not to wake him and to just make sure he was safe and where he couldn't hurt himself.
