when should i stop working. .

20 week pregnant i am a chef and i am on my feet all the time. My back is starting to ache so much i want to work till i am a least 37 weeks.when its a good time to stop working ???

Re: when should i stop working. .

  • To be honest it's up to you and your doctor to decide that. If your doctor thinks your ok to work till 37 weeks or your due date, go ahead and go at it. If your back is aching a lot and your doctor sees it as a concern, you may have to begin maternity leave early. There is still some time left to decide that. Last thing is talking to your employer about your maternity leave now and start getting prepared for it as we are at the half way point now.

  • I was on my feet 10 hours a day. The only reason I stopped working was because the hospital was an hour away. If it hadn't been, I would have continued.

This is a decision for you and your doctor. There is no set time to stop. I guess before you crown would be good....
  • My friend had a baby in May. She's a server and worked up until she gave birth. She was actually schuled to work that day so she never decided to quit working. It's up to you and whatever your doctor recommends.

  • I'm going to stop working tomorrow afternoon and basically play hookie on Friday. I'm tired and feeling sick this week and going to call it celebrating hitting the half way mark. :)

As for when will I start mat leave? Hopefully on the day this kid shows up because that means I felt good enough to keep working and my doc gave me the A-O-K. Can't tell ya what will be best for you though, sorry. Gotta talk to your doc and your own body about that one.

  • if you are richa nd don't want to keep your job - quit now.

If you need your job and are medically able to keep working - keep working.

Until your doctor thinks you and baby are at risk from your job - there is no reason to quit. Is it possible for you to get a work stool (have doc write a note) so you can be at least propped up a bit while doing stationary prep work? Is there a prep table where you could sit to do the work?

  • It's really a personal choice. Only you know how your feeling, and your financial situation. There is no set time frame.
  • Totally personal based on your medical condition, finances, and preferences
