Breastfeeding while pregnant

Ignore the hair dye stains on my counter, but I am definitely pregnant with baby #2!

My daughter is 9 months old and is still nursing every 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours while she's awake, and is waking up once or twice in the night to nurse. I know that my supply will inevitably dry up, but I fully intend to breastfeed her until she wants to stop, but definitely until 12 months at least.

Does anyone have experience with nursing through a pregnancy and then tandem breastfeeding? When did you dry up? Did lo self wean? Is there anything I can do to keep my supply as long as possible?

  • I'm there now; I'm about 15 weeks and still breastfeeding DD who is 9 1/2 months. My supply really dropped a lot when I got pregnant and there was just no way I could keep BFing as often as I was. Right now, I only nurse her at night before bed and she drinks formula the rest of the day. I didn't really try anything to try to keep the supply up, most of the research I did online seemed to say that there really isn't anything you'll be able to do to affect the supply if you're pregnant, and that very few people are able to continue BFing throughout their pregnancy. So I guess I'm not much help, but I would say just keep going as long as you can but accept that you might not be able to BF as long you thought you would. Good luck!
