NBR: dinnerware input

Does anyone have or heard of Gibson dishes? Are they good, decent, horrible? We're asking for new dishes from my grandma for Christmas and I want to stay in her budget for it. I want a serving of 8 for under $80- any other recommendations? I found these and I can't decide which color I like best!

Edited bc I forgot the pictures!

  • We love Correlle! They don't break and clean easily.

Love Corelle too! I like them because they're not too heavy and don't break (important to me with little kids in the house) My sister got me a set from Target last year for Christmas and they still look brand new.

We love our Corelle too but I don't think you can get 8 place settings for that price unless you find it on sale.

I think you can get an 8 place seeing for about $70-80. I think the white set I have came from Walmart for $35 a box.

The other reason I like them is that is you go with a very neutral pattern, you should be easily able to replace any pieces that do break or add to your collection as you see something come up. (For instance, we added small desert bowls and salad plays to my original sets.)

Edit because I pressed okay quickly.

  • Never heard of them, but I like the blue ones.

We're another Corelle kitchen. I like that they are light and don't take up much space when you stack them up, and we are miserably short on cabinet space.

My Corelle dishes are actually mostly 70s and 80s resale finds -- there are 4 original Corelle patterns and I collect 2 of them (yes, I know that's kinda a strange thing to collect but it's a cheap hobby).  But it is nice that I can just go to Target and buy the plain white dishes and it fits in with the 40 year old stuff in my cabinets.

This is my favorite pattern - it was discontinued early, blue was not a popular kitchen color in the 70s

  • Corelle. We have a set DH got from his parents. They are over 20 years old and going strong

Even better, they hold up to toddlers and hardwood floors.

  • Corelle for everyday use here. We have plain white Target ones for 'nicer' dinners. Would love a nice set though but probably not worth it.
  • @Helmink0804 I've owned a few Gibson dishes and the quality was good but the stoneware ones were super heavy. You might want to check these out in store before you commit to them, just to see if you like the feel of them.

  • Thanks ladies! @jenb_99‌ I'll definitely check them out in the store. I was wondering about the quality of them and if they last.

  • I think that is what I have. Just in a different style all together. I got it from target. I love them. Obviously don't need the coffee cups. Wish I could replace them with more dishes but they have individuals you can buy if you want/need more

    It's a BOY
