I have all kinds of issues with them, but I particularly don't like how they essentially eliminate local business (particularly in a small town). I buy all my groceries at Sobeys or Independent, and I try to buy most of our other stuff at the smaller local shops. I have to confess I do go to Walmart every once in a while because it is literally the only place in town where I can find Huggies Overnights...wth?
We have so many choices here that I never have to resort to Walmart. I like Target, but most of my grocery shopping gets done at the local farmer's market, local butcher, Trader Joe's, Sprouts, Whole Foods, Gelson's and Bristol Farms.
My biggest issue with Walmart in Canada (without even doing much research into it) @Mufflerlove is that they tend to move into fairly small-ish communities and offer everything at really cheap prices. Which I do get is more or less the point, but having such a big store like Walmart in smaller communities (ours is only 8000 residents) there just aren't enough consumers left frequenting the local stores. So many of the stores on Main Street here have closed in the last 10 years, about how long we've had Walmart. There is no way they can compete, so unless they are offering something Walmart isn't (hard to do since Walmart has practically everything) they just don't thrive.
I avoid it if I can but if target doesn't have what I'm looking for then it's off to Wal-Mart I go. I hate that no matter what time of day I go there are always long lines at the check outs. Open some more damn lanes!
No I don't like their business practices. I don't shop at lots of places\ buy lots of brands for ethical reasons Hobby Lobby, Chic Fil a, Papa Johns, Curves, McDonalds etc
What's wrong with curves and papa Johns? I haven't heard anything!
Haven't heard anything about Curves but isn't Papa John's the one where "John" made a right ass of himself complaining that they couldn't possible afford to give their worker's health care so they would just cut worker hours?
Yep, that's him. He said that if he had to give his employees insurance, he'd have to raise pizza prices by 14 cents. Um, ok dude, I'm pretty sure most of us would be just fine paying 14 cents if it meant that the people making and delivering our food stayed healthy. Also, heaven forbid he cut into his billions of dollars of profits by a single cent - no, that would be asking too much.
It's not a big loss for me - Papa John's is like the Walmart of pizzas for me. We have much better mom and pop pizza places near us so that's where we get our pies. Papa John's didn't lose my business because they never had it to begin with. /soapbox
I shop at Wal-Mart a couple of times a month. We have lots of grocery options here but Wal-Mart is still the cheapest and we're on a budget. I prefer Target but it's a lot more expensive than Wal-Mart.

This exactly. For all of the above. Unfortunately the pizza here SUCKS, though, and Papa Johns would probably be a step above the local places. But I still won't.
@graceinca, I miss Abbot's / Grey Block and Gjelina desperately...
I love Gjelina's pizza. And their Brussels sprouts. My favorite pizza in town is Mozza, and Milo & Olive is a close second. I hope you find a good joint near you.
