Trouble TTC

Advice for first appointment with RE *New to posting*

Hi! I have never posted before….Any advice for my first appointment with my RE? We have been TTC for 16 months, tried 4 rounds of Clomid with no success. HSG, SA and all BW has come back "normal"….

What questions should I ask? Anything I should know?

Thank you in advance for the advice! :)

Re: Advice for first appointment with RE *New to posting*

  • Before my first appointment, I had my medical records sent to the RE and had to fill out some paperwork online so that my RE had a decent idea of where we're at with this process. I hadn't had any testing done yet, so at the appointment we just talked about possibilities and I was instructed to call on CD 1 to set up  CD 3 and HSG appointments.

If you've already had testing done, your RE might be ready to discuss treatment for your next cycle at that first consultation appointment, unless there's more testing that he/she wants to do first.

  • I agree with the others in having all your records available. We brought everything with us that we thought might be useful... everything! They made copies of everything, so I took home the originals. Others suggested faxing over ahead of time, which would be a good idea, too. Also, I don't know about others' experiences, but be prepared to re-do some of the tests you may already have had done. And, with more testing comes more waiting. That was probably the hardest part! Good luck to you! Post an update!  :)

  • I had to fill out a huge questionnaire on paper and also online in a portal thing at least a week before the appointment. They requested all my records for me as my High Risk OB referred me to my RE and personally talked with him about my case, so that part was easy. I was shocked at how much I found out at the first appointment! Be ready to take notes and ask questions. Good luck!

  • My RE's office had a big form to fill out prior to the first visit. I also printed out my previous 6 fertility friend charts to show the doctor. The questions you ask will depend on your individual situation, but I might ask about repeating some of the tests you've done already and what else the doctor thinks should be assessed before coming up with a treatment plan. Good luck!
