Weaning - 2 part question

I know this has been asked before but I can't find it.... So I am currently bf before work, pumping twice at work then nursing before bed in the MOTN... And I do the same thing on the weekends... What's my next step? I was successful at reducing from 3 to 2 pumping sessions but not sure what to do next.

2nd part- my left has never been a super producer- 2 oz tops; well when I pumped this morning I got maybe .5 oz which is fine....however my left Boob sort of feels bruised and feels sort of lumpy; I tried pumping again and got hardly anything. Do I have a clogged duct or is this what happens when you stop making milk?

Re: Weaning - 2 part question

  • 1) drop to one pump session, assuming your goal is no pumping, and just evening-morning nursing. Do it by cutting the time by a few minutes a day.

    2) sounds like a clogged duct. Massage the breast, offer that one to LO first, apply warm compress before pumping/nursing. You may want to get that worked out before moving forward on the weaning process.

  • Thanks- I was hoping it wasn't a clogged duct- haven't had one since the early days and it was a b to get out
  • ^^ This.  I just kept extending time between pumps, and then just dropped a session for a few days, then another, then I pumped only once a day for two days, then didn't feel the need to pump again.  I would try a hot shower, and then try to nurse, that helped me with discomfort.

    Good Luck!
