Days Leading Up To Labor Symptoms?

Did anybody have any symptoms or body changes (other than contractions) they noticed before labor started?

I'm 37w3d today. This past Thurs I was in so much discomfort and I couldn't get comfy. I just felt off. I had constant back & pelvic pain (like I needed to take a huge poop), frequent urination, and center chest pain. I called L&D twice, both times they thought it sounded like reflux or upset stomach. However, I couldn't get any type of antacid to stop the pain. About 2am I was going to go in, but dh rubbed my back and I fell asleep. Friday I felt better, but still off. I called L&D again because I developed a headache. Again, told to try otc meds and see if it would let up. By late afternoon I finally started feeling better and my symptoms subsided. My swelling had also went away almost completely, I was 7lbs lighter than what my docs scale had on Wed.

Sat & Sun I felt fine. I worked my usual 11hr shifts. I did sleep through the night both nights -- which is unusual.

Today I wake up at 3AM again with agonizing belly pain. This time it's left upper quadrant. I can't get comfortable. A warm bath helps. I have had a handful of bowel movements, all pretty soft stools. I had blood tinged snot when I first woke up.

Baby has been active today, so I'm not concerned there. These are just weird symptoms. Being so close to my EDD, it all makes me very nervous.

Re: Days Leading Up To Labor Symptoms?

  • I didn't have any symptoms. My water broke at 10 pm, and my mucus plug showed up then too. I didn't have any contractions until 5 am the next morning. I'd barely had any BH contractions prior to that.

I've been asking Google, "Is ______ a sign of labor?" for the past few days!! And I've been asking about everything! The anticipation of when we'll finally get to meet our little baby is really the hard part!

FTM here -- my Braxton Hicks have definitely increased (as in, went from practically zero, to having them nearly all the time, it seems!) in the past half week.

I know I still have a week+ until my due date but babies can come at any time. I'll be happy if she waits a week, but I wouldn't mind meeting her beforehand ;-)
This is where I'm at...except I've had BH since 2nd tri-they had kind of cooled it for a week or so, but have been back frequently the past week or so.  I keep googling things even though I know every woman is different and symptoms can mean nothing.  I've been really restless these past few days, more frequent trips to the bathroom, more back cramps...it's definitely hard not to wonder what, if anything is going on!

  • It is so interesting to read this knowing you're having your baby right now! We're due date twins, and the first part of your post could have been written by me: identical. I don't have the other symptoms, and at my OB appointment today, she said I'm nowhere near labour. So similar symptoms and opposite outcomes!
  • It must be something about 37 weeks. I felt like crap last week, almost exactly like you described!! But week 38 for me has been much better! More energy.... Less cranky.... Who knows... I LOVE the SLEEP bath stuff from Bath and body, I use it every night in my bath and then the lotion to... It reAlly helps me settle down at the end of the day! Try it out! Good luck!

I've been having a lot of the symptoms you were describing off and last week, lost part of my mucus plug and when I went into my midwife appointment, they said I wasn't effaced or dilated at all. It was pretty frustrating to feel like no progress has been made.

From then on, I've basically accepted that my digestive issues, constant low back, hip and pelvic pain, stabby cervix pain and even the bloody snot are all just late third tri symptoms and try not to Google symptoms so that I don't drive myself crazy. I hate to say it, but we could have four more weeks ahead of us!

Everyone is different though, so @KMW08 best wishes for a healthy (and not late) L&D.
