Pantyhose?

Hey - I'm just wondering what you ladies are doing for hose.

I have several cute maternity dresses, but it's getting a bit chilly to wear them with no hose. I've been wearing regular hose and even bought some one size up, but they're getting uncomfortable. I wear them below the belly, but they still feel tight around the top.

I'd rather not spend more than $10 since hose tend to be semi-disposable for me. I usually don't get more than 10 wears out of them before they get a hole or run. I Googled, but most were > $10, and the $8 Motherhood ones got really bad reviews.

I have a few pairs of black leggings, but those aren't really appropriate in my work environment (business attire). What are you ladies wearing under dresses? Is there a good place to buy maternity hose, and is it worth it? Or maybe I'll just stick to pants for the last 10 weeks - ha ha.

Re: Pantyhose?

  • I have the motherhood ones. I wore them to a wedding on Saturday. I would normally go with a medium and that's the size I should have bought based on the sizing chart on the back, but I bought an XL. They were a bitch to put on but once I got them on they were fine.

  • I bought maternity pantyhose at Target for my shower.  They were BeMaternity sheer pantyhose by Ingrid & Isabel.  I definitely DO NOT recommend them.  They had a run and a hole in them before the day was over.  Unfortunately, it was all Target had at the time and I didn't really feel like running from store to store.

  • The motherhood ones have been working fine for me so far. I'm with @9513, though. They SUCK to put on. After I was done, I told my husband that I can't wait to be able to put on hose again without getting all out of breath.

  • The Berkshire ones that @HappyMonkey817‌ recommended seem like they might be the best for the price.

    Is it these?

One reviewer said they're like "angels kissing your legs." I've never heard that kind of review of pantyhose.
  • I dont have a solution that I know works, but I was discussing this with my mom because I'm in the same boat as you. She suggested getting thigh high hose. She said they have a sticky kind of inside that will prevent them from sliding down your leg, and you dont need to worry about your belly. Apparently my aunt swears by thigh highs. I never knew this.

I thought about trying it because I like the idea of my belly being free. I haven't researched prices though...
  • @luckylady18‌, I've tried thigh highs, and in my experience, they either fall down, or if they're tight and "sticky" enough to stay up, they're uncomfortable. I'm open to recommendations though if anyone knows of good ones!
  • Old navy, less than $10 when they have a sale! Super comfy and not too sheer.

I have these too. They work great for me. Im 5'5 and currently 190 was 160 pre-pregnancy by the way. Size B fits me. Hope this helps.
  • my daily struggle. i'm almost embarrassed putting them on in front of my husband because I look so ridiculous hopping around trying to get them on, getting out of breath etc. :( and then by the end of the day I want to rip them off of me. I'm wearing pants today but I def. don't have enough maternity pants to wear for next ten weeks so I'll continue with the misery of stockings...
  • I wear tights every day and I tried the motherhood tights but they didn't work for me. Maybe because Im only 5'3, they went all the way up under my breasts and it was uncomfortable having my whole belly covered. I actually found success in target with merona opaque tights. For some reason the textured and some colors fit tighter then others but generally after wearing a pair a couple of times it seems to stretch out nicely. I went the next size up from my normal size and its been working for me so far.
  • Assets by sara blakely marvelous mama terrific tights are a little pricey but are very comfortable!

I joked with my mom that maybe I'd get a garter belt to hold them up. I laugh at the thought of my huge belly and a garter belt. But for real, maybe it would work.

I'm looking on amazon now and a bunch of the thigh highs that they have do have 4/5 stars. Good sign?
  • I thought about a garter belt, but the clips probably wouldn't be long enough with how high I'd wear it. The only garter belt I have is more for fun and not for function - it's part of the lingerie I got before I got married. I wonder if I'll ever wear that stuff again - ha ha.
  • oh I've never had one. They look fun though. I'm tempted.
  • I feel like part of the reason I like tights is that my legs can't rub together but with thigh highs they would...ah first world problems.
  • I went to a wedding a few weeks ago and bought a pair of thigh highs at Kohls.  I think with a coupon, they were probably around $7.  I believe they were Hanes brand.  They were very comfortable and I didn't have to fuss with them at all.
  • I got the Gap tights in black and grey and find them super comfy.  Wait for a coupon and they should be $12 or less.

  • I got some from RU Preggers - they are light compression and feel great once on.
Similar to others, they are really hard to get on - I told DH that I will need his help next time :P

They start out expensive but if you like the discounted or random colours then they are a great deal.

  • I have a few pairs from Thyme Maternity, do not buy them. They are so uncomfortable!
  • Thanks for posting this, I've been wondering the same thing. I tried regular tights a size up at first but those got too tight in the belly. As of now I've pretty much given up on tights since I find the larger I get the more I need to let things breathe. I've just been going with leggings under my dress and taking them off when I get to work since the office stays decently warm and I'm trying to minimize the amount of discomforts right now (if that's even possible). I haven't decided if I want to invest in tights for the remaining month or so until maternity leave...

  • Wore Assets maternity tights all day last week and they held up great.

  • I found the Motherhood ones comfortable once on, but required help putting them on (and that's at two sizes above what I normally would have chosen). I'm only 5'2" and didn't find them to be too high. No higher than the full belly maternity pants. This is a screenshot of my facebook status from Saturday...
  • @trexsmum, my SIL is much more stylish than me, and she doesn't wear hose (except for sometimes cute patterned ones). But I just feel like my legs get cold if I have a knee-length or shorter dress in the winter and no hose. I don't wear them in the summer.
  • I have no advice on pantyhose as I just wear pants but I have to admit that I'm amazed that you get 10 wears out of a pair of pantyhose. I get two, if I'm lucky - no matter how much I spend.

  • I was thinking of trying thigh highs because last month I made the mistake of going one size up in my tights and I thought I would die all day.  I'm petrified of my undies falling off, though.  Is that weird?  I refuse to buy new ones and just wear my pre-preg underwear under my bump but they always fall down.

  • NO HOSE!!! Free the legs!!! :) I'd go with a longer skirt/dress or pants before I wear hose.
  • Silks maternity pantyhose, which I bought at a specialty sock/pantyhose store. They were a little pricey, but I spend more on my pantyhose to get higher quality so that they'll last longer. I'm still on the same pair I bought about 6 weeks ago and I wear them a couple times a week.
  • I just picked up a pair of maternity tights at H&M last night for $12. They're thick and warm, which I like, and pretty comfortable. Getting them on was quite a feat though. After struggling to get into them for several minutes, I finally kicked my husband out of the bedroom because it was downright humiliating. I think that would be the case with any tights/hose in the third tri. I'm happy with these so far, seem like good quality.
  • I dont wear hose so much as tights. I found thigh high tights on amazon. Haven't bit the bullet yet but I think it needs to happen. It's going to be in the 30's and 40's here soon and bare legs just isn't an option. And I only have 2 pairs of maternity work pants. I refuse to buy more pants - I'd rather buy tights. Also my office is super hot so I like wearing dresses to work and I can take off the tights once I'm here if its really hot. I cant take off my pants at work! :)

  • I hate the word pantyhose...should save that for my UO maybe :)
  • FFTC - I took off my hose on the way home from work yesterday because they were so uncomfortable. I was stopped, but still probably not the safest driving choice.
