Diclegis - working? not working??

I got prescribed Diclegis because my nausea was affecting me too much at work. I don't think it's helping very much though, I had to leave work early this past Saturday my nausea was so bad. Has this medication worked for any of you or do you have any other recommendations for getting through work? I work in customer service so I am constantly around a lot of people, some of which have very distinctive smells....

Re: Diclegis - working? not working??

  • It worked for me for the first little while, once I hit 10 weeks I think the nausea is stronger so it's not working so much anymore :( I read on another thread earlier that you have to take it at the same times everyday. My sickness is usually during the day so I take the 2 pills in the morning and one at night and one in the afternoon. It's horrible to feel so terrible all the time, hang in there.

  • Thank you so much for the advice! I might take 2 in the morning and see how it goes.

(Side note, I forgot to mention I am 8 weeks)
  • Smelly people are the worst.
  • My midwife explained to me that diclegis itself does not help the nausea. It allows you to be able to eat and regulate blood sugar without being sick, which in turn helps the nausea. Make sure to eat something small each hour or two to keep your blood sugar constant. Your snacks should be a protein, fat and fiber combination (Greek yogurt with flax granola or a hard boiled egg and an apple). This advice made a huge difference with the diclegis.
  • Oo! Careful taking two in the morning! I did and was out cold for most the day!
  • Didn't work for me at all. I'm @ 8 weeks. I was vomiting 4-10 times a day even more sometimes. Had to be put on zofran. That has been a life saver!
  • Yes, make sure you know how they effect you before you take 2 in the morning- they don't seem to make me drowsy but I've heard most ppl do get verrrrryyyyy sleepy! And that's good to know about the eating @mrsteacherphx‌ I didn't know that, maybe that's why they aren't working so well.
  • Unfortunately it did not work for me. Ask for zofran..I feel like a different person now that I'm on it!!

  • It worked wonders from weeks 7-9. But now I'm back to puking in the mornings and having "breakthrough" nausea throughout the day. I think that's because this is typically when ms peaks, so the medication has a bigger battle to fight. I still feel better than I did with nothing, but not great. Zofran did nothing for me in my previous pregnancies.

  • It didn't work for me. I finally broke down and called the doctor yesterday for something else. She prescribed me Ondansetron. The warnings seem pretty scary so not sure if I want to take it. Has anyone else heard of it or used it??
  • It worked for me. I stopped throwing up day 2 of the meds. The issue is it made me so drowsy I couldn't work or drive a car safely so I had to stop the meds. Now back to puking:(

  • My nausea is worst at night...keeps me up or wakes me up sometimes. I have resisted taking it, but broke down last night and just took one to get through the night. It did make me sleepy and I slept all night...not sure if it was the antihistamine that helped me sleep or it really helped with nausea...either way, I woke up feeling better than I had in almost 3 weeks.

  • Ondansetron is the generic name for Zofran
  • Good to know! Thanks! That makes me feel better about taking it.
  • I didn't think it was doing much good so I decided to skip taking it one night.... woke up at 3am feeling awful! I haven't missed a night since, but I can only take one and never during the day as I cannot function with the first tri exhaustion plus the sedation from the medication.

  • Pretty much when I hit 8 weeks I couldn't stop puking so I started taking the pills I take one at 5-6 pm so I'm not sick waking up and then one around 10 am because I work at 5 am ! Some times I take two in the morning
  • Did not work for me :( boo
  • Works wonders for me. I take it as prescribed which is 2 at night 1 in the morni my and 1 in the afternoon. Typically I take them at 10ish , 730 and 330 and have had very little problems. The days that I do have problems I've gone to long in between taking doses.

  • Pulling this thread back up. I've been on diclegis since 8 weeks, I'm currently 14 weeks. Still nauseous, but the tiredness is taking over - making it impossible to work. Has anyone moved to a different med? Or just stopped taking it? Crossing into the second trimester I keep praying to magically wake up glowing with energy. STM and I remember feeling better during second tri, it just feels like it's never going to come
  • I'm 15 weeks and just take it at night now l, I seem to be okay. I threw up today but It was totally random. Why don't you try not taking it this weekend and see how you feel?
  • I've been taking it for weeks. Works great. I take 2 at night and one in the morning. Agreed on eating frequent small meals.
I'm tired all the time. Might be Diclegis might be just being pregnant. Nothing I cant live with. Better to be sleepy than sick for me.
  • OB gave me a sample to try in lieu of zofran. Couldn't handle feeling SO DRUGGED plus throwing up. Sticking with my zofran.
  • It did not help me. And I couldn't take unisom because you can't take the two together. After trying a week and not sleeping at night and still having morning sickness I said bye bye to both Zofran and Diclegis since they didn't work and went back to unisom so I could at least get sleep!
  • I'm going to try to take one at night instead of two, but don't think I can do without it. This will all worth it in 6 months :) but I can sleep anywhere these days.. Standing, driving, talking. Ugh, wish I could stomach a small cup of coffee.
  • It worked for me, now week 15 but im still taking it. I went off it for a week and my nausea came back, heart burn got worse, and i couldn't sleep.
