Do you buy your dude's clothes?

Or chicks if that's your thing lol?

My man has no style direction. He tries to go on his own to get khakis, for example, last night and comes home with 4 pairs of identical jeans and a red jacket ??! Lol. He is taking two pairs back today and looking again for khakis but I will end up being the one who finds them and tells him which ones fit and look decent.

I pretty much am responsible for almost every outfit, minus nice suits, he owns lol.

Re: Do you buy your dude's clothes?

  • No. DH picks out and buys his own clothes.

But I am the fashion-challenged one in the relationship, so he usually goes with me to give opinions on my clothes.

Off-topic, but I totally thought your screen name implied you were a lesbian.

  • Haha no! Just an old nickname. Lez. Lellz, Lel.

It's weird I know but a things since grade school amongst close friends. I prefer the peen.
  • I buy all my husband's clothes and have been buying them since well before we were married. He's not a shopper and doesn't put much stock in appearances (qualities I very much appreciate!), but other people do care about how a person is dressed and I make him look decent at least for work.

  • I'm just keeping it light and silly. I can get serious if you'd prefer Madame.
  • My husband HATES shopping.  I usually shop for him but most of the time things don't fit (he is tall and has broad shoulders so he needs "athletic" or "slim" fit otherwise his shirts are too baggy).  Recently he came to me and asked for some new clothes...apparently he has needed some for awhile but never told me so now it's "urgent" LOL.  He is in the Navy in flight school so he wears a uniform or a flight suit almost every day so its not like he needs that many clothes...haha.

  • My DH has more clothes than I do and loves to shop. I try to pick things out and buy him things but generally he rolls his eyes and moves on down the rack. ;p

Now, every other part of life... I take care of him like he's a helpless baby.
  • I buy my DH's clothes.  Or my mom gives them for xmas.

He works construction - so no work clothes needed.

We farm on the weekends, so he doesn't wear nice clothes often.

I do have troubles getting him to rotate.  Even though the shirt is perfectly fine...you've worn it to church every week for the last 3 years...it's junk.

  • I'm married to a metro sexual that has great style, so he shops for himself.
  • I'm pretty sure since we started dating, his only new clothes have been purchased by me.  Or I was at least with him (he will only usually shop for himself once a year).  I like that he wants me to go along for my opinion.

  • I buy him random things, if I am at the store and I see a sweater or a t-shirt I will buy it but I don't buy his clothes on a regular basis with the exception of all of his under garments. That I buy because he would love to buy that stuff at Macy's and I prefer Walmart for those.

  • My husband went to college for photography specializing in high fashion, so nope, he's got great style and enjoys shopping for his own stuff. I am much more likely to be asking his opinion on clothes than the other way around. He also works for H&M and gets a great discount so we take advantage of that a lot!
  • DH will but his own clothes most of the time. If I see something I like I'll get it for him but I can't complain about his choices. On the other hand if we're going out he always asks me to pick out his outfits.

  • Yep. We both prefer it that way. He hates shopping and can't be bothered and he trusts my tastes. Plus then I won't complain about what he's wearing. If he doesn't like something we exchange it, but I have a pretty good track record. He's very simple in his clothing tastes.

  • I probably  need to pull a stick out of my ass, but your use of the words "dude" and "chick" and lol-ing bugged me.
I am just putting it out there, I will never relinquish my use of the words 'dude' and 'chick'. They are favorites of mine.

This is how a typical shopping trip goes between my husband and I :

Me: ooooooo. Look at this shirt!
Him: no. I hate that. It has buttons (or some other stupid detail).

    Twenty minutes later...
Him: so that shirt you liked. I guess it's not awful. Should I try it on?
Me: why didn't you try it on before? You know what? I'll be in the shoe department.

I will wash, iron and fold his clothes, but I am not going through the headache of buying clothes for him.

  • I buy DH's clothes for 2 reasons:
    1. He's too cheap to buy them himself
    2. He would wear his clothes out until they practically disintegrate
  • If things go well with baby daddy and I and we end up together, I will be buying his clothes or trying to strongly influence his choices. I've seen him out of "uniform," and he desperately needs a woman's touch. His sister did help him pick out an awesome leather coat last year....I do love that on him.
  • I buy all of DHs clothes, and have since we started dating. He looked like a complete fool with his pants too short, shoes all worn out and plain white shirts. The man has money but doesnt care how he looks. Now that I have done a complete overhaul on his wardrobe he can put stuff together to wear day to day, but I still do all the buying.

Haha, my husband was the same way. All white t-shirts and pants that were worn out. I still have to yell at him for wearing all of his jeans doing construction. No nice pants to go out in.
That are so frustrating some times.
  • That's why you see so many naked starving men aimlessly wandering the streets with video game controllers and confused looks....!!

No we're not implying they are incapable. My husband doesn't even own a gaming system. I on the other hand still have and love my Wii :)
  • No. Thank you baby Jesus. DH has great style and buys his own clothes. He even wipes his own ass too!

This sounds exactly like DH and I. He is lucky enough to wear just jeans and polo shirts to work. Now that it's getting old he wears plaid and flannel tops. I got him some nice jeans and tops so he looks fairly decent at work. I also bought him some nicer jeans which I call "date night or special occasion jeans." If he wears them too work he will get them dirty and ruin them.

Soooo, not to be rude, but I am really curious how some of your husbands would survive if they were not married.  Between this thread, the supportive partners thread and previous threads with the bitching about husbands and boyfriends not being helpful or doing anything, I really have to wonder. Would they all just hide in a corner in their own filth, playing video games, wearing the same outfit every day, starving because they can't cook for themselves?

DH is capable of dressing himself, but like others, he tends to wear the same thing over and over again. He is a minimalist so he would be fine with a smaller rotation of clothes and shoes. I just tend to add to his closet. I also use it as an excuse to buy myself more. For example, if I am shopping at Banana, I will grab something for him on my way to the register to make myself feel better. Ha.
I have found that my DH has strengths just like I have strengths. However, he also has weaknesses, just like I do. He cooks, I can't. I can shop, he hates it. I am a cleaner/tidier, he is more organized. I personally find it to be a nice stress reliever to hear from other women who have difficult aspects about their relationship and how they handle it. It's like talking to my girlfriends, but ones who are actually pregnant! I don't think most DHs are helpless. I think it is the accumation of hearing everyone's difficulties on one board.

If I wasn't around, my husband would have clean clothes, but they would not be ironed, and he would probably pull them from a pile on a chair each morning.  His diet would consist of take out food and the occasional chicken and broccoli meal.  He would probably eat it on his lap on the couch watching a TV with 6 inches of dust.

he would survive, it just wouldn't be pretty.  :)
