selling breastmilk?

Has anyone ever sold their breast milk? If so, how and where? I have looked at onlythebreast.com but heard you get a lot of spam emails too. I have a huge freezer full and have donated some to the local milk bank, but if there's money to be made a little extra cash to help out with bills would be great! My baby is a chunky, healthy 10 month old and I have thousands and thousands of ounces stored up!

Thoughts???

Re: selling breastmilk?

  • Check out mother's milk bank in ca, I know they can refer you to a non profit bank if you decide to go that route. Congrats on having all the milk!

  • I would look into donating rather than selling.  There are lots of moms that need breast milk and for whatever reason cannot afford it. For them donated milk is a literal lifesaver.

  • I donated to a mom of premature twins on Eats on Feets. I wouldn't sell, personally. I felt great about my good deed.

  • It is difficult to donate, though? I drank while I breastfed and I know some people are turned off by that. I just wonder if anyone would actually want to accept my frozen milk.

    EDIT: clarity
Not difficult at all. Check it out online. Someone contacted me the day of. She was a sweet lady, also. Very much appreciated.

  • As great as the money is for breast milk, I just don't think I could accept money for it. I donated 100oz to a friend at church whose baby and also have my sil around the same amount for my niece (3 weeks younger than my daughter) bc she was running low and not pumping as much as she needed.

As a mom who has a child who thrived thanks to the kindness of a milk donor, I would kindly urge you to think about donating it. I found donors for DS1 through Human Milk for Human Babies (on facebook) and MilkShare.com

  • So far I've donated about 800 ounces to a local milk bank! I have more tomdpmate in the future. I feel very good about it but wondered if there were other options out there! Thanks for all of the advice!
