Remembering to Eat

Hello ladies!
Haven't posted in a super long time...

But I need some tips, advice, suggestions!

Since baby has been here and being at home, I find myself quite often forgetting to eat!

What are some of your go to foods?
Do you prepare things at the beginning of the week for yourself throughout the week?
Fav go to foods?

TIA

Re: Remembering to Eat

  • This has been a huge challenge for me and then I end up eating junk.

Last week I made overnight oats in jars, a double batch of pumpkin oatmeal breakfast shakes, and hard boiled eggs to have on hand and it's helped tremendously. I also baked and froze veggie muffins before LO was born and just pull those out and pop them in the microwave for a quick snack.

I keep a lot of fresh fruit on hand but need to get in the habit of grabbing it when I'm hungry since it doesn't usually appeal to me unless it's cut up or with something else (e.g. slices apples with peanut butter - much more appealing to me but it takes a few minutes to prep versus just grabbing a whole apple).

  • My issue isn't remembering to eat, it's keeping DS from fussing long enough to eat.

During the day, I'm lucky to find time for cereal, a grilled cheese sandwich, or scambled eggs.

I make sure to eat SOMETHING no matter what, it's important for BF'ing to get enough calories.

  • I'm all about the one-handed foods. I find myself choosing between sleep and eating when DD lets me put her down though. Right now eating is winning even though I'm exhausted

  • Yeah I don't get a lot of chances to actually eat either. Next thing I know is 2 and I'm grabbing a granola bar before putting DD down for a nap. I'm so sick of snack food! I'd probably kill a man for a steak or lasagna.

  • I have been working really hard to stay on top of food and meals, because I have my 3yo to feed, too. I have found it helpful to make a list in the morning of the meals and snacks we're going to have that day. It keeps me from staring into the refrigerator in a haze 15 minutes before when dinner is supposed to happen. At the bottom of the list I have a "prep" section... things I can get done ahead of time if I can grab a minute while baby is napping and my son is playing. This afternoon, for example, I threw some chicken breasts in the oven and filled a pyrex bowl with peeled/chopped carrots and trimmed snap peas. At dinnertime, I threw the veggies in a steamer and the chicken into tortillas and we had a real meal on the table very quickly!

When I really need to just grab something, I have a spoonful of peanut butter or a bowl of whole plain yogurt with raisins or dark chocolate chips, a clementine, baby carrots, etc.

It's pretty quick to whisk a few eggs with shredded cheese and meat/veggies and pour the mixture into a muffin tin. They bake in about 15 minutes and then you can grab mini quiches out of the fridge to eat at all hours!

I have crockpot oatmeal and hard boiled eggs for pre-prepped food. Other things I keep on hand to just grab-fresh fruits, string cheese and crackers and yogurts.

Agree with this. I have a whole carton of hard boiled eggs that I can easily eat. Good for you and protein keeps you full longer. Grab one for a mid morning snack. I will also throw a cut up hard boiled egg in chicken soup for a fuller lunch.

I also keep cheese and sliced deli turkey handy for mid afternoon snack.
