Cloth Diapering

CD only washer..thoughts?

Sooooo we found a brand new non HE washer for pretty cheap. I got excited because I still really dislike the way our HE washer washes diapers. (Doing ok with Charlie's, but with 2 in cd in the spring, I have concerns...) more water makes me happy, lol!

DH admitted he's a little bit sqeeved with the CDs in the same washer as our clothes ;)

So, if you could get your hands on a non HE washer (not worried about the cost of washer), would you do it?

These are the settings:

  • We had thought about getting a second washer.  We were having a hard time getting our routine down pat with our HE FL.  And my MIL moved into a place that had a washer/dryer so she was getting rid of her old school top load washer.  But then I realized we would have to plumb it (water and drain).  And it wouldn't fit in our laundry room so it would be down in the basement.  I would have to take the dirties down and then the heavy clean wet ones up to put them in the dryer.  I ultimately got really determined to make it work in our HE FL.  It took some time but now we are good.  Don't know if my story helped...just thought I would share.
  • If it's convenient and you want it and cost isn't a problem go for it. My husband wanted to do this but it would have been in our garage. Which means i would have to bring dirties downstairs, across the house, outside across the walkway (in rain/ice/snow) then back when done. No.

  • We are buying a small portable washer that will pretty much be just for diapers next month with DH's Christmas bonus. BUT we have shared coin op machines, so its not like we will have two. I'll probably wash all the kids clothes in it too.

  • If you have the space, and it's important to you, I don't see why not.
  • If the plumbing wasn't an issue, I'd love to have a washer on the ground floor or in the garage.  We line dry most of our laundry.  Right now that means hauling wet laundry up from the basement, usually with a 22 pound toddler on my hip.  No easy feat, and I worry that some day we'll take a tumble.
I live in Ohio, our garage gets pretty cold in the winter, so I'm not sure that would be the best place.

Alright! We are going to do it! (Happy Birthday to me!!) Luckily, we have the space and it'll be easy to have additional hook ups put in.

The settings on the washer look good to me..... Anyone see any potential problems with the setting options that I'm missing?
