My last living grandparent passed away today. We knew she wasn't doing well but, you know, it's still a shock in a way. My grandmother & I were never close but I do know she cared about me. She could be very negative & critical. I'm a natural encourager so extreme negativity was difficult to be around at times.
I can only remember three times in thirty four years that I was not at her house on Christmas Day. No matter what time we arrived, she was always in her house coat & never had her hair fixed. Lol. She'd say "You caught me!" she was just too focused on cooking to get dressed on time. She would always find something wrong with her chicken & dressing. Usually she said it ha too much sage although no one else could tell.
I took DS & DD to see her in the hospital earlier this month. I knew she wasn't doing good. We tricked her into eating by telling her she could hold Eve if she ate good. I got pictures of her with Eve & DS. I'm SO glad I did.
Even though we didn't agree on much, I am so sad today. No more Christmas Day at her house, no more catching her in her house coat & no more "too much sage".
When I saw her in the hospital she had tears when we were leaving. I asked her why she was crying & she said "because I love you so much." I will forever treasure that moment because even though I know she cared, I honestly can't remember her sincerely telling me she loved me before. Some of it may be a generational thing & she had a hard life. But whatever the reason for her behavior, I'm so grateful that is the last thing I heard her say.
Although many of us here hold very different beliefs, I know you'll understand in this moment I'm finding comfort in knowing she is happy with my PaPa again. It's a comfort to know we're only separated for a time. Heaven just got a whole lot louder & God sure won't have any peace now. Lol.
Here's the pic I took that day in the hospital. My hand, her hand & DS's hand. A true treasure.
So sorry for your loss. I'm sure she is with your PaPa now, and will always watch over you and your family. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family during this tough time.
This hits home for me because both of my grandparents are in their mid 90s and not doing so well. That's a beautiful picture and story! So sorry for your loss

I'm so sorry! It is so nice you had that special moment with her. It's like she knew! I know how you are feeling, I lost my Papa October 11th. Never easy to lose loved ones.
So sorry for your loss. It is so tough to lose a grandparent. My grandmother isn't doing well now and I fear she won't be around much longer. It is just so emotional with a baby, knowing he won't know her! Definitely thinking about you and your family during this difficult time. And that photo is so precious.

So sorry for your loss. This sounds very much like my grandmother and the relationship I had with her, who was also my last grandparent and passed away 3 years ago. Maybe they'll meet up in Heaven and party it up together! And both be critical of the food.
The service went really well today. It was about a two hour drive there so I am really glad DS slept on the way. He was so good during & only asked for fist bumps a few times.
My dad & I were the only family that spoke. My cousin was going to but backed out. My part was less than five minutes but I said a few of the things I said here. I was SUPER nervous to get up but I'm really glad I did.
Thanks for the support y'all. I'm pretty wiped out so I'm getting to bed as soon as Princess Buttercup falls asleep.
So sorry for your loss. That picture is a thing of beauty, though. Your LOs are so lucky to have met their great-grandmother! All of my grandparents have been gone for many, many years. The sad thing is I don't think I really understood how much I'd miss them till they have been gone a long time.
Now if you'll excuse me, someone must be cutting onions around here...
Re: My grandmother passed away today :(
The picture and the rememberance you shared was absolutely beautiful. I'll be thinking about you and your family.
