Target Brand Diapers New Liner = Rashes?

OMG I just noticed in the other thread that we might be on to something here. Several of us (at least 3 I think) are now experiencing rashes with the new Target Brand Diapers. They changed their liner formulation to be more cotton-y or some such nonsense. Anyone else switched to a new box and noticed anything?

Here we've had two bad rashes in a row the past 3ish weeks with only a couple of days of a break from them. They have been really awful to the point where I was thinking I need to start eliminating foods even though he hasn't been exposed to anything new lately. My baby would cry when anything, even water, touches his raw little butt. Poor baby!

I've rarely had problems with rashes before this. I am thinking of switching diapers if this keeps up! Any recs?

  • I'm reading reviews that talk about the liner being much thinner and not wicking moisture away from the skin as well as the old kind did. That would explain the rashes. Damn you, Target. Give me my old diapers back!

  • THAT. EXPLAINS. SO. MUCH.

I'm all kinds of angry now...but I'm totally returning this case that I have unopened and getting new diapers. Target brand are the cheapest (and used to be the best) diapers. I'm mad.

  • We've been using the old nighttime diapers but started using size 4's of the new model about 2 weeks ago...

  • I'm also kicking myself for the leak issues. Sophia has never peed through diapers...up until a few weeks ago. Now, I'm reading reviews that people are complaining that they're thinner.

    Sorry. I'm fixating, now.

Has anyone used Kirkland diapers from Costco?

  • Fingers crossed we are almost finally over our three week battle with diaper rash, but I'm not a target brand diaper user, we use pampers swaddlers.

One of the first things my pedi recommended doing was switch diaper brand, I tried the baby basic brand but they leaked every time. I've used huggies before but leaked as well.

In my LOs case I don't think it was the diaper, we're still using swaddlers, but I'm following this thread because I'd love to find a less expensive option and not risk MORE diaper rash....damn you diaper rash, your the worst!
  • @fitmama418 I know! I am angry too! My son crying because his butt hurts is unacceptable!!!

We should storm the Target diaper development HQ like this:

  • @fitmama418 I just ordered a box of Earth's Best from Amazon. They were highly recommended by the Baby Gear Lab. https://www.babygearlab.com/Disposable-Diaper-Reviews/Earths-Best-Tender-Care

I just went up a size in up and ups and Matthew got a HORRIBLE rash! And I called my pedi for a yeast cream prescription because OTC cream was doing squat! I'm so pissed! I love the price and quality of up and ups! Ugh! I don't want to switch!

Oh my gosh! This is so freakin' nuts. It has to be these damn diapers to be happening to all of us. What the real hell?!

I just realized that his rash gets better overnight and worsens throughout the day-- because I use Pampers BabyDry for overnight diapers and put him back in those RASH TRAPS all day long!! I am so mad/sad/fucking pissed about this.

  • My friend on FB just said her 2.5 year old who has always been in Target brand says they feel funny and itch now. :|

@MelanieSue05‌ I would stick with them as long as you aren't having any problems! Do you have a new box or old? The new boxes boast about the new "cotton-like" liner.

  • FYI, it sounds like these rashes are a contact dermatitis. Our LO had a nasty diaper rash after switching to new diapers. We tried every diaper cream known to man on it, and it cleared up the day after we started using hydrocortisone. I would definitely give it a try!

  • So glad I saw this. I use Up & Up but am still on the old style since they were on clearance I stocked up. We have had problems with her peeing through them at night lately so today I was going to search for some overnight diapers. Now I'm wondering if I should just switch brands ( I would probably go to Kirkland) or try the new Up & Ups. I'm leaning towards just switching. Dammit, don't they do a ton of market research and trials with new products?? How did this not come up??
  • @alisonm12 @beckyj2013 I would buy a small bag... like the $6 one... and try a few days and see if you're ok. But if you see a rash come up while using them, discontinue. I would say just being aware is good.

The rash, in our case, was getting progressively worse. So if I had pulled him out of them on Day One I bet he would have been better right away. Even just being in his 12-hour overnight diapers helped... then I would put him right back in to Target dipes that morning and by the end of the day it was awful and red. I'm sad about this still.

My son has never been prone to diaper rashes because we're really proactive in greasing his butt up with Aquaphor, but he does have sensitive skin in that he gets dry, scaly arms and bumps on his back if I don't use free and clear detergent and Burt's Bees soap with Cerave lotion.

TL;DR- Try a small bag, be vigilant, switch if rashy.

  • I haven't been around much but saw this thread had to jump in to comment on this.  We've been using Target nighttime diapers and it has given DD2 a terrible rash and they suck at containing leaks/poop.  They used to work great and now I won't buy them again.

Huggies is my preferred diaper and on a whim we tried Costco's Kirkland and I like them better than Huggies.  I think they do a great job!  And if you don't like them you can return the half used box anyway.  At our location they are the same price.

  • I returned an open box of Target diapers because of rash and the guy didn't bat an eyelash. I suspect they are getting a lot of complaints. I ended up using hydrocortisone in combination with another ointment because the couple ointments I tried just weren't cutting it.  It worked great btw.

Are Kirkland diapers really made by Huggies?  I decided to give them a shot since the Huggies were having leg blowouts every. single. bm.  The Kirkland had the same issue andplusalso leaks right through the front. I'm so unimpressed by diapers.  =(

  • @chrisy_01 I'm going to be working on an email/review this morning I think. Yesterday, I bought Pampers Cruisers to try and Pampers Extra Protection for overnight. Fingers crossed we see some improvement.

She's already alternating Nystatin and Mupirocin perscription creams which the doc wants us putting on her dry butt first with Destin pasted on on top of it. I'm SO over these high maintenance diaper changes...
